What is 'bump' ?

I am fairly new to all this and i was just wondering if some one could tell me what "bump" or "bumped" means if someone puts it in there postings. is it a good thing or a bad thing?

If a thread is at risk of dropping off the first page and someone wishes to 'bump' it back up to the top, then unless they have something dreadfully important to say, they'll just note their action.

Just means they are bumping the thread up so that it will be on the first page....rather then burried where nobody can find it...
