What if it was like the old days, and you could find a superfan to be your patron or sponsor? What if they enjoyed your writing so much that they would pay you to write? Why can’t it be like that?

I could not find a "superfan" rich enough. . . . .

I think that only happened to Anais Nin and she was paid less than her living expenses...

The scary thing is that the young writers here will, in 25 years or so, be referring to 2019 as 'the good old days'.

From my apartment in an orbital asteroid-city as I float in zero-g writing a hot historical romance about the days before we headed off planet..... “aaaaah, those were the good old days. Now where did you put those tickets for Mars, dear?”

That kinda puts me in mind of E.E. 'Doc' Smith.

Tefler? Lol, he has his fans but it’s a niche he’s in, just as many of us write to other niches and genres. He fills it well, but it IS a niche. Anyhow, comparisons to other writers is pointless. It’s not a competition and it’s all subjective from the POV of reader enjoyment and writer fulfillment. We all enjoy what we write or we wouldn’t do it. Speaking for myself, I don’t want to be like anyone except myself, and writing is a continuous learning and evolutionary process. Even when you don’t intend it to be, the mere act of writing leads to improvement.

How-2 Make A Million Bucks In Publishing:

Blow ten million bucks on marketing. Have fun.

How Else To Support A Fiendish Writing Habit:

Hook up with someone employed and tolerant. Gain an inheritance (but don't commit murder). Become a televangelist or their sex slave. Steal a gold toilet. Start online channels with many ads. Or commit crimes, get caught and convicted, goto jail -- you'll have lots of time for writing. Have more fun.
