What if Lit required readers to send the author feedback before accepting any votes less than 3, and automagically affix the reader's user name to the feedback.

Too complex, then the reader has to work when all they really want to do is wank off. The voting in most part is an after thought, unless they are trolls, then they would just give you ones across the board.AsylumSeeker said:I'd like to not get one rating, but ratings by category. This would help me determine which elements of the story were widely accepted or not. Let readers submit ratings for each main character, storyline, and so forth. But, in reality, few go to the effort and fewer still would honestly rate a detailed feedback form.
But since we're fantasizing... why not lock their genitals in a chastity belt until the feedback is provided.

Um ok. Let me get this straight. If a person votes a 3 or less, he is directed to a form that says that he should feedback. The person then gets disgusted and closes the window. His vote is not registered.BlackSnake said:I started to implement this idea on my site.
Implementation is very easy. When a vote is submitted, check to see if the vote is less than 3. If the vote is less than 3, direct the user to a feedback form with their username attached as read only text. Explain to the user that if they intend to case a low score then comments/feedback is required. Else accept the vote.
Just make it so there is no voting or PC's from Anon.damppanties said:Um ok. Let me get this straight. If a person votes a 3 or less, he is directed to a form that says that he should feedback. The person then gets disgusted and closes the window. His vote is not registered.
A person votes 4 or 5 and the vote is accepted without the need to feedback.
Won't it totally skew the ratings of the stories this way? Possibly stories will just get 4s or 5s when people do not bother to vote 3, 2 and 1. Won't the mediocre stories rise?
Am I reading this totally wrong?

Actually, then the numbers of votes would begin to be the deciding factor in the ratings.damppanties said:Um ok. Let me get this straight. Hmmm. What about 4.65 with 10 votes as opposed to 4.64 with 100 votes? (supposing that the earlier didn't get the less than 3 votes due to it because it asked for feedback and people were too lazy to get to it.) Currently, at Lit, the former would be rated higher. What would happen in the new system?Stella_Omega said:Actually, then the numbers of votes would begin to be the deciding factor in the ratings.
I understand what you're saying BlackSnake and as author I want to know why my story gets a low vote. However, I don't think not registering the low votes when there is no accompanying feedback is a good move. IMO, people simply will not bother.BlackSnake said:First, I stated less than 3. (A programmer's job is never done) Votes of 1 or 2 require comments.
I think it could work wonders. If your story really does suck to the reader, then you'd have some idea why. Also, it may deture 1 bombers. You have a way of defending your story's rating.

I think there should be other forms of encouragement for providing feedback. Maybe promising nude pics or porn of choice?![]()
yes, that thought occured to me too. There are stories here that have lots of votes- because they've been online since the beginning, I suppose.damppanties said:Hmmm. You know, the stories I think are damn good (mine and others') do not have the H. It makes me wonder whether we at AH here are more literary than the general audience at Lit. I mean, it is a porn site after all. I don't think many readers look for literary merit.
