What I Like About Lit

I posted this on the "Why Are People Surprised" thread ( http://www.literotica.com/forum/showthr ) but actually think its a bit out of place there... so I'm starting a new thread for this topic.

I like that this is a community. It is not a one subject flash in the pan. That is why I am still here, 18 months and going strong... *smile*

If this was nothing but a "porn board" it would have gotten boring quite fast. I'd come back every now and then for some titulation and the stories but that would be it.

If you are intersted in only one subject there are plenty of places to go. If you want non-stop hard-core pornography there is no lack of places on the web to hang your hat. If you want nothing but policical debate there are much better places on the web for that. If you want to discuss science - there are excellent forums. Philosophy? Yup - there are sites for that as well (right up my alley...)

But... this is the thing. We have all that here AND, for the most part, we also have a sense of humor. I cannot go to a CNN forum and talk about blow jobs, swimming nekkid in jello and the best way to approach anal sex while also discussing the latest situation in the Middle East. I CAN do that all here and more. That is what makes this place special. That is what I love about this place. Whatever my mood - serious or silly - I can usually find a thread that matches my mood and, if not, I can start one on ANY topic I wish without being censored.

This place IS special for those reasons and for many more as well.

I have never been on 'The Well' but I've heard a lot of good things about it, don't know if it's still just as good though. But I can imagine Lit is something like that, a mix of various people discussion just as varied topics.

The reasons he listed are the reasons I'm still here. Lit is like a cozy lil pub where everyone knows everyone else, and anything is ok. We don't have to like everyone, or join all the conversations, but if anyone is gone, they're missed.

It's the people

They are simply fabulous, in so many ways. The range of interests never ceases to amaze me. There are some really intelligent folks here. There are people I might not ordinarily "meet" otherwise. There are lots of folks with devilishly delicious wit. Flirters, artists, writers, readers. The topics are endless (okay, some get repeated from time-to-time), but this place is really like what I imagine a "salon" might have been like in fin-de-siecle Paris. Interesting witty people exchanging ideas and flirting.

Oh sure, some topics I don't bother with, but there are so many other choices--room for all.

Though I've only been here a couple of months, it does have that feeling to it, I agree.
