Well, for those who actually realized I was gone for a bit....I'm back in Alabama, at least for awhile. I got back last night, and other than being a little road-lagged and having a tan I would've killed for in college (but should've been too smart to get), I'm none the worse for wear.

I spent last weekend at the Saugeen First Nation 35th Annual Competition Powwow, and as soon as Walmart opens, I'll run the pics down there for developing, and post 'em for you. We had a GREAT time! I'm still hearing drums in my sleep, and we danced, and talked, and laughed, and ate until late Saturday night, and then again all day Sunday.

I also brought back a mind-full of ready made characters that are just itching to find a story (I only wish the accent could be translated into the written word). I learned a slew of new dirty words in Ojibway, and already miss my friends there, but I've promised to be back soon.

It's good to be back here in the AH, though. :)

Sure. :)

actually, they're open, but the photo-developing part isn't until 9, I think. I HATE not having a digital camera.

kinda sorta. Plans are up in the air at the moment, just taking things day by day, you know?

I already did this in PM. But anything worth doing is worth overdoing.

Welcome back! *HUGS*

Abs has already heard this story, but it was so funny at the time, I have to share it here.

There's a lady there on the rez that's called WalksFar (for the obvious reason).....she's the mother of a friend of mine, an elder. She's a little bitty thing - all of maybe five feet tall, and 95 pounds soaking wet. The day this happened it was really warm out, but she had on a sweatshirt and a ballcap. She has a rather raspy voice, and has a cadence to her voice like the Inuit woman on Northern Exposure.

I was at her house, picking her son up, and she walks up behind the car, and sees my license plate.

"Alabama.....that's a long way. You must be tired."

"Yes, ma'am, it is, but I got here a few days ago, so I'm okay." (I'm just making polite conversation with her - she's a sweet lady)

"I'm thinking about moving, myself. Maybe this Saturday."

"Is it? Where will you be moving to?"

She grins, teeth missing and all, and replies "I'm not going to tell you" before walking off accompanied by the howls of laughter of everyone in the car.

Man, I love those drums. Nothing stirs the blood quite so much. The first time I heard the drums live, I got teary-eyed. Can't explain it, it was just an emotional reaction to the rhythm of centuries.

Glad to hear your home safe and had a wonderful time! Welcome back, Cloudster! :rose:

I think it affects everybody in some way....it's not called the Heartbeat of the People for nothing. ;) I confess, I got teary-eyed during the Grand Entry.

What's amazing is the little bitty dancers. They'll be so shy, and don't want to dance, but the minute they get out there, and the drums start, it's like the spirits take hold of them, and they're dancing right along with everyone else. (A lot of the pics I have are of little dancers....niece had on her "Hello Kitty" pink regalia - so cute.

So glad I'm not alone with the weepy-thing. :)

The itty bitty dancers sound so cute! Come on Walmart.... time to OPEN! We need pictures! :D

I hear the drums....no wait that's the kids jumping on me to wake up.

I missed you.
