WHAT HAS GONE WRONG WITH THE NEW LIST?

One of my latest stories has just been approved but it is not listed in the NEW STORY listing - I went to EXHIBITIONIST and VOYEUR and sure enough there it was -
THE CAR chapter 2

Now I feel a little pissed off because it is while stories are on the front page of the new list that they get the most reads, after that they become yesterdays news.

Had my whinge and feel better now.

I doubt your "whinging" made any difference. I've noticed that as the story database gets bigger the update of the new stories list takes longer every day.

When the scripts first went into place, it only took about an hour to completely update the site. The last few months, it seems to be taking 2.5 to 3.5 hours for everything to update.

Perhaps this is something Laurel and Manu need to take up with the programmer? I'm sure that the update could go faster than it does, but the algorithm used seems to be increasingly inefficient as the database grows.

What do you mean? You don't get the update until about three or four in the morning Cali time? When did you first notice this? I hadn't really noticed anything myself, but the one time I was looking for a story that went through something similar to Jon's, Laurel told me that my browser cache needed to be cleaned out. Once I did that I got the new page right off.

I just don't remember how to do that now. *sighs*

I see stories get added to the list over a few hours sometimes. There could only be maybe a very short list for the current day, and then an hour or so later it may actually double or triple in size. I only see this occur between 5am-7am ET normally. This includes cleaning out the cache too. Its not every day though that I see it happen.

To clear the cache in IE ... click on tools->internet options->delete files (in the temporary internet files section). Then refresh the page to get the latest version of it.

That's easy enough. The scripts regenerate at regular intervals so that the pages are always updated. Laurel regenerates them every night when she's finished reading.

She goes through about 30 to 150 stories a night depending on what kind of crapola is going on around her. Takes time to read that kind of porno and the site updates in the middle of it, sometimes.

I guess the root cause was that I was looking at 11 am UK time which equates to 3am Cali time.

I guess I should just contain my excitement - but I was anxious to know if my other story A ROYAL SCREW had been posted - as I submitted it a day after THE CAR ch2 I anticipate that barring problems it should appear tomorrow.

I promise you some UK and some Commonwealth readers will be baying for my blood when they read it. TEEE HEEE

I first noticed it about a year ago.

It seems like the new stories page gets regenerated with each story added, or every few stories added. almost everytime I refresh the page between midnight and three AM there is another story or two added to the new stories. Depending on how many stories are added any given day, the complete update may take until 3:30 or even as late as 4:00 AM Pacific time.

I haven't spent the time required to track exactly how long it takes for each regeneration, so I don't know if it's every few minutes or every few stories, but it's definitely NOT one or two regenerations during the process.

Good heavens! I had NO idea that Laurel was doing all the reading.....she must be

A) Numb by the time she's finished for the night. Or...
B) Horny as hell. (Lucky bastard) Or...
C) Frustrated as all get out Or...
D) Bored to tears. Or...
E) All of the above, depending on whatever mood she's in.

Either way.......do they pay her enough to do all that?
