What Happened to ASSTR.ORG

(Would a man call me "adorable but scary?") It's a bit daunting to deal, even briefly, with someone who appears to be hard-core irrational because they are playing by an entirely different set of rules or non-rules.
I dunno, Gunhill. Your transit timetables and old city block photos... pretty sexy, yeah?

ASSTR was originally just a web-clone of Usenet's alt.sex.stories. Any post to alt.sex.stories automatically ended up on ASSTR if it had story tags and whatever headers where needed to declare your post a story and not your random opinions about the topics of the day.
"Tad 1.0" had a novel up at asstr.org, apparently, because it was posted to alt.sex.stories and as you say all that got scooped up and posted at the website sometime early in the century I guess.

Perhaps disturbingly, the Internet Archive Wayback Machine archives asstr.

I would expect that kind of treatment if I had made an approach to her, albeit online. (I don't know how old she is, although she probably has an idea of my age if she has been reading my posts). But I quickly stopped responding, because I wouldn't be surprised if she tried a false accusation (regarding my messages) against me. It could just be a claim that I had used profanity in an email to her. She'd have no legal basis, but it could be embarrassing with all of these other people, many of whom I've known for years.

What I can't figure out is why she'd need to validate her "green" credibility with this mostly male audience. Maybe she doesn't know how old most of them are! Yeah, it can quickly get pretty strange here in "Hello World."

Here is the latest info I've seen on the status of ASSTR ...

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The firewall's conked out again. Rey & Mike may or may not get it into halfassedly functional mode again, but if they do, it'll no doubt roll over again.

Mike has the replacement firewall(a box *known* by Mike to work nicely with their distro of Linux), and is setting it up, configuring, etc. Then it'll be shipped to the data center and installed. This will take at least a couple of weeks. Meanwhile:

Access to ASSTR will be spotty at best. ASSM likely will remain devoid of stories, since the fw really doesn't like incoming email, even when it is more or less working.

All involved apologize--but also note that all involved are more frustrated and generally po'd about this than anyone else. ASSTR/ASSM *will* be back up and working properly, have no doubts about that. It's just a bad transition period. "This too shall pass."

(I'm posting this 'cos Rey's Usenet laptop is in the shop)

If you really really need something passed to Rey--something that just can't wait--you can email me and I'll pass it on. But if I get 'Rey I need to know when the site'll be back up' I won't bother passing that on. He doesn't know. Mike doesn't know. The answer to that one is ASAP.

Tell them to keep up the good fight, we all miss them.

The Wolfpub story site is quite small but their only rule is, "Don't be a jerk."

Please help an old lady be better informed. I know ASSTR and have browsed there (yuck) but what does SOL stand for?
It's a military term, it usually applies to a small unit facing 10,000 angry bad guys:
Shit Out of Luck
