IMF assesses risks to U.S. economy as 'tilted to the downside'

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- Risks to the U.S. economic outlook "appear modestly tilted to the downside," the International Monetary Fund said Friday as part of an annual review into member country's finances. The IMF said higher tax rates and the spending cuts from the sequester "might prove to be a stronger headwind to consumer demand over the next few quarters." A slower pace of growth could in turn delay the normalization of the labor market. The IMF also is concerned about financial stress reappearing in the euro area, which could impact the U.S. through both trade and financial channels, and from the impact of lower growth in a number of emerging market countries. The IMF again repeated its call for the U.S. to raise the debt ceiling while making longer-term deficit reduction and said the prolonged low-interest rate environment could sow the seeds of future financial vulnerabilities.

So the IMF says spending cuts are causing a headwind, and that we should do more. What a bunch of dummies.

well now, HUFFPO is shitting on Obama for the $100 million trip

they do say this

Of course, Obama's milestone trip to Africa isn't all about how much people are spending on it. The president is also expected to spend time re-affirming partnerships with the sub-Saharan powers and emphasizing the importance of global health programs, including HIV/AIDS prevention.

Oh really?

We live in a society where nobody gives a shit about those "beneath" them.

People making a million a year don't care about the people making a hundred thousand.

People making a hundred thousand don't care about those making fifty.

Those making fifty don't care about those making twenty.

Everyone needs someone to feel superior too, and someone to look down their nose at.

Voting patterns and several movements around the country seem to suggest that everybody making less than 50k knows they are in the same boat and most people making less than 100k are at least open to the suggestion.

Though it's not about caring for those "beneath" them it's about caring for your damn self.

If I make twenty thousand a year, I can feel good about myself by calling someone making fifteen a lazy bastard living off us hard working people.

Yeah, but when that guy with 15k shows up and says we should raise taxes on the 1% you don't tend to argue much. Not that I see a whole lot of people in the 20k zone talking shit about anybody.

If you have less than five million in liquid assets, you're just another douchebag begging for a crust of bread, and those with more than five million don't care what you have to say.

The system is rigged against the "regular folk" and most of them don't realize it. They are too busy feeling smug when someone hands them a pot to piss in because their neighbors don't have one.

I'd love to see where you pulled that number from. It seems a bit high by any standard.

Regardless your second paragraph still doesn't really work particularly well with reality. We're smug pricks to be sure, but we're nowhere near that bad.

Sometimes people have opinions based on their own experience and there's no need for google or links.

Fair enough. It's not like I don't pull numbers from the air as well (though I usually label them) I was merely curious if that was the average amount needed to retire and pay for "average" medical expenses or something since I'm sure there is such a number where if you live an average life you can survive on 'X'.

Five million will produce a safe and reliable income of $250,000 a year. $250,000 is enough to come and go as you please.

Cause Africa needs MORE BLACKS, there arent enough of em there

No Joke: White House Defends Obama Family’s $100 Million Trip To Africa As A “Great Bang For Our Buck”…

Update to this story.

Via The Hill:

President Obama’s $100 million trip to African offers “great bang for our buck,” the White House said Friday.

Deputy national security adviser Ben Rhodes defended the cost of Obama’s upcoming trip to South Africa, Senegal and Tanzania, which could cost taxpayers as much as $100 million.

He said the White House doesn’t determine the cost of security, and argued traveling to the often overlooked region would help the U.S.

“Frankly, there will be a great bang for our buck for being in Africa, because when you travel to regions like Africa that don’t get a lot of presidential attention, you can have very long-standing and long-running impact from the visit,” Rhodes said.............NAME ONE BENEFIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!..................stfu, that Bush went as well

The White House spokesman added that “the president’s not going to retreat from an entire continent on terms of the cost.”
