Dow six weeks after Obama was elected: 6626

Dow today:13,346

Obama got elected and the Dow increased 102%.

this is a good thing, no argument there.

whether it was because of, or in spite of, his policies can be debated for a long time, with no clear answer.

but a high stock market is only 1 piece of a large pie. many other economic indicators are still down, down, down

Unemployment is half a point lower than when Obama took office and 2.5% lower than when the recession bottomed out in October of '09.

Which economic indicators have gone down since the recession hit bottom in '09?

Plus you will have the same pigsnouts not saying a word about GM using stimulus money for plants in Korea, China and Russia.:)

Got a rough estimate of how long it'll take and how far it'll fall?

I suspect the cowardly Vettebigot won't give you an answer.

He learned his lesson about avoiding specific predictions way back in 2008, when he declared the recession over in January 2008 due to George W. Bush's decisive leadership and how it would pave the way for John McCain's landslide in November.

He's followed AJ's technique of being as vague as possible, and declarin' victory if anything remotely resembling his vague prediction comes to pass.

So, is everyone ready for the huge tax increase come January...no matter who wins the election?

If Coca-cola put their products on sale for the weekend, does that mean that come Monday morning they've had a "huge price increase" when they go back to being sold at their regular prices?

Hmmmmm?

Derp.

Republicans opposed the payroll tax cut when Obama proposed it. Then they opposed it when it came time for an extension. Now Republicans attack Obama for letting it lapse even though it's exactly what they want.

Fuckwaffle has an IQ of 50. There's no way he's a 51 even with two cups of coffee.

What Obama is letting lapse are the Bush tax cuts imposed over ten years ago.

he is letting both lapse. What the idiot is lying about is Republicans bitching about Obama letting it lapse.

"I think there's a growing consensus that Congress and the president can't continue to divert such a critical revenue stream from Social Security," said Rep. Kevin Brady of Texas, a senior Republican on the tax-writing House Ways

Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., disparaged the payroll tax cut, calling it "sugar-high economics" that wouldn't promote long-term growth.

"The payroll tax holiday was intended to be temporary and there is strong bipartisan support to let that tax provision expire," said Sen. Orrin of Utah, the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee. "The continued extension of a temporary payroll tax holiday has serious long-term implications for Social Security and, frankly, it's not even clear that it has helped to boost our ailing economy."

Except for 98%. He's keeping them for 98%. Do you think Republicans will refuse to take that deal?

If you think they'll balk, you cannot believe that the Republican party is making even the slightest effort at bipartisanship.

This calls into mind Robert Heinlein:

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all right-thinking people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.”
