What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

It's just a coincidence that both Lincoln and Kennedy printed United States Notes, and both were shot.:D

Think both done a shit load of things to piss a lot people in power off.
notice when the fed started then the Democrats pretty much 1920 on ben in control
I don't think that's a coincidence.
Prohibition had a lot to do with the start of income taxes and the fed, how things would be different if they never did that.

It's no coincidence that the 16th Amendment and the Federal Reserve Act were passed in the same year. Now that Congress could borrow money from the Fed they couldn't tax Americans for, they needed a way to pay it back.

I want start a company like the fed make boat loads of profit pay no taxes and know that I'll never be out business.

Paper money comes straight from Mephistopheles. The History of Money by Jack Weatherford recounts the story.

Faust and Mephistopheles visit the court of the emperor during the pre-Lentin carnival season of masquerades and tricks. The emperor is besieged by his treasurer and stewards reporting the lack of funds and the need to pay the wages of the soldiers and servants. His moneylenders demand payment on debts, and even the wine bill has come due.

Mephistopheles offers the emperor a way out of his financial mess. He has found the key to making gold, the secret that all alchemists had sought for centuries. He obtains from the emperor permission to print paper money-"the heaven-sent leaf."

Faust comes to the emperor's carnival ball dressed appropriately as Plutus, the god of wealth, and through magic, he and Mephistopheles show the emperor the riches he can have by printing money. ... He has based the value of his money on the future mining of gold, the untapped treasures still buried in the earth. ... The new money has been unleashed to the great joy of creditors, debtors, soldiers, and other citizens. Already people are ordering new clothes, and business booms for the butcher and baker. Wine is flowing freely in the taverns, and even the dice roll more easily. Priests and prostitutes scurry about their business with greater enthusiasm because of the new money, and even the moneylenders are enjoying a brisk new business.
...
At first, the spread of Faust's new money brings happiness and improvement, but soon the hidden costs begin bubbling to the surface. ... Soon social unrest in the newly enriched nation leads to rebellion, and a new anti-emperor rises to challenge the old one.
The perversity? Monetary shenanigans represent a short-term fix but the long-term cause of economic, social, and political woe. Thus do Neo-Keynesian economists such as Krugman enlist in the Devil's Party. "Easy money" advocates propound QEs and Twists and other weird devices to generate a brief relief for the economy. They ignore the seeds of destruction thereby sown.
The story of Faust is a secular, not a religious story. It is a play, not Scripture. Barack Obama is a secular Protestant, not a Satanist. But Goethe, notwithstanding his invocation of sacred symbols, wasn't propounding theology. He was an empiricist. Weatherford: "As a scientist and statesman as well as a poet and playwright, [Goethe] foresaw the great accomplishments and the shortcomings of the emerging industrial world that would be financed on the newly emerging monetary system of paper money."

America and the world remain stuck in somewhat terrifying stagnation. Aggressive monetary easings have failed to reignite the economy. The authorities proposed solution? More easings. The August 22 Washington Post reports that "[m]inutes of the last meeting of the Federal Reserve reveal that many board members see the need for additional monetary action 'fairly soon' to boost the pace of economic recovery."

The book is an excellent read; in one of the later chapters it tells the true story of the Wizard of Oz.

The problem for the West, Europe and us, is that for decades they have been destroying their Capital and we follow them. Ten years ago, on this board, we were saying that Socialism would always collapse and all we ever heard was, "It works on Europe!" Now that it is not working so much, they brag on the underpinning of central government, "We have Universal Health Care," as a way of misdirecting the conversation about their declining standard of living; even in Cuba, which we know for sure has a basket-case economy our Left travels and marvels over their health care. Now we are in a great stagnation delighted that we have finally reached the goal of Health Care for all and free contraception to women while donning sackcloth and ashes wondering where does the Middle Class go...

Why once upon a time, upon hearing of a Bush Jobs report of 300K jobs added in a month, State Senator Obama had this to say:

“We’ve got a structural problem in this country. ”What you’ve got is middle class and working class Americans who are being squeezed and working longer hours for less pay; it’s harder for them to find jobs that pay a living wage. And it’s those structural long-term issues that I think Democrats are going to be debating on because that points to whether or not my children… are going to have the same standards of living we had growing up.”
Barack Hussein Obama, 2004

I always tell Malia and Sasha, look, you guys, I don't worry about you. I mean, I worry the way parents worry, but they’re on a path that is going to be successful, even if the country as a whole is not successful.”
President Barack Obama, November 2011

We left corporate America, which is a lot of what we're asking young people to do. Don't go into corporate America. You know, become teachers. Work for the community. Be social workers. Be a nurse. Those are the careers that we need, and we're encouraging our young people to do that.

I am suspicious of American Thinker....I have just skimmed an article on that site titled:

The Biblical Case for Limited Government and Low Taxes

Wtf? How can you give credence to their articles when they publish nonsense like this??

I get that. However, there is more than one opinion out there and I always read the opposition, which, is why I am where I am on the political spectrum, their reason triumphed my emotion. Now there is a lot at The American Thinker that I do not buy, but when you see something so obviously true then it is good to use it as a starting point of conversation or to bolster points previously made. Look, I'm supposed to give credence to the links provided by others, at the risk of being labeled as close-minded, even though if I were to take a sampling of the day's site, I could come up with similar, what I would consider, nuttery and be satisfied then to never enjoin in erstwhile conversation, which is, what I fear, my former comrades on the Left do; if they can destroy the source to their satisfaction, then they never have to address the kernel of the opposition argument. They just keep shouting mantras in uniform.

I get your points as well. Ok, I would in future, take a quick look at something you have linked from AM, as long as it wasn't toooo tub thumping and dripping in partisan rhetortic. But I was really suprised that their 'About Us', included a statement about the importance of supporting Israel. See that rings all kinds of warning bells for me.

Yeah, then you probably liked the DNC convention where they publicly took God and Jerusalem out of their platform and then when polling showed the damage done put it back in over the loud no votes and booing of their delegates...

;) ;)

The Jews are alone in the world. If Israel survives, it will be solely because of Jewish efforts. And Jewish resources. Yet at this moment Israel is our only reliable and unconditional ally. We can rely more on Israel than Israel can rely on us.

I have a premonition that will not leave me; as it goes with Israel so will it go with all of us. Should Israel perish the holocaust will be upon us.

I have premonitions too. Wanna hear one?

So I write " And" and you go straight to Maxine and death panels. That's about all I need to know. Thanks.

How many books have you researched and written?

No, you already "knew" everything you needed to know which is why you penned the sarcastic "And..." as if it were some profound zen statement...

A man's gotta know his limitations.

I stuck with short stories. My English professors really gushed over them.

A whole book would just be taking up a stick and poking it into the malevolent eye of fate...

Yeah, stick with being the ace of short stories...

Btw..tonight I have cracked the 2000 post mark...yay for me!!

I actually typed it. And I was not being sarcastic, I was looking for your comment as I assumed you had a particular reason for posting a statement from the First Lady. I heard her say (as I read it) that a lot of youngsters should go into teaching, nursing and community support work in order to provide value to the society. Let me guess: you heard her say that we need more Socialists to further our cause to upend capitalism and come closer to Marx's dream.

You did not hear the attack on corporate America in her comments or the previous set of comments. They hate progress, they hate business, they desire The Return of the Primitive. Why is it that when they actually say it, you decide not to believe it? It's not your Father's Democrat PArty any more; it's not my Grandfather's political party any more, the hard Left is firmly in control and they proved it at their convention by taking God and Jerusalem out and then putting it back in by force because of the overnights when the independents and moderates learned the details of the platform thanks to the reporting of the alternative media because the bigs were not going to say a word about it...

Their job is to provide cover for the reelection of the man they got elected to further their dreams of "Equality of Outcome."

A_J's corollary #7, “To the New Age Liberal, the past is an indictment, the present is unjust, and the future will be perfect if and only if they establish the rules and cultural norms for current society.”

A_J's corollary #8, “In times of crises, the New Age Liberal calls for more government and higher taxes. In times of plenty, the New Age Liberal calls for more government and higher taxes. The primary motivation is always Crusader-like Altruism and the illusion of ‘fairness.’”

[to paraphrase a famous quote]

The New Age Liberal doesn't want a huge government! They just want a little more government now!

(This has to be paid for; it has to be paid for out of working Capital, to work around full circle to my earlier post).

AJ lives in soundbyte land. He prefers things dumbed-down as much as possible to avoid looking at reality.

As Dr. Chu done anything to raise gas prices to levels in Europe? No not even close. But AJ has a sound byte and that's ll the proof he needs.
