What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

Funny article. Tell me if you see any problems with these things it asserts:

1) Obama botched the industry (GM) bailout. Even though GM is once again the number one auto maker on the planet.

2) We should squarely blame Clinton for creating the recession. Because you know, the Republicans had to way to change his policies after he left office and they had control of everything. Of course we know that Bush and the republican congress only took Clinton's housing policies and expanded them greatly.

3) Obama launched a regulatory siege on businesses and attacked Wall Street. Which is why the market subsequently put on 6000 points I guess.

4) Obama is to blame for the recession (can't blame Bush and the Republicans or disastrously risky private sector acts!). Even though it started long before he was in office and the article even admits that the recovery started a few months after he took office.

5)
The 8.3% number is a mirage. In fact, unemployment rate is declining in large part because millions of people have given up hope and left the workforce. Last month alone, they totaled 1.2 million.

Well we know from looking at the BLS report that there was no increase in discouraged workers from 1 year ago. It says it right there in the report. Wait a minute Vette, you DID read the report on your own, right?

6)
Since Obama took office, 4.7 million people have stopped looking for work. Add them in, and the real unemployment rate suddenly doesn't look so good: 11%.

Intentionally deceptive and you were duped because you're not very smart. READ THE REPORT VETTE. Your lying asshole author isn't just counting discouraged workers. He's counting all people who have ever stopped looking for work for any reason since Obama took office. Students who quit their jobs to go to school. Moms going on maternity leave. People quitting because they became ill or are taking care of an ill family member, or any other kind of family reason. People who decided to travel for a while. Retirees. The author packs 'em all in there to try to make Obama look bad.

Well I guess if Obama wasn't such a loser the baby boomer generation wouldn't turn 65 and retire. What an asshole president for letting that happen! Let's blame Obama for that!!!

Your author is a liar, Vette. You were lied to. And once again we see how gullible you really are.

And when you add up the 12.7 million unemployed, the 4.7 million no longer looking for work and the 10.5 million who can't find full-time positions, that's 28 million people — for a jobless rate of 17%.

So a person working two part-time jobs, 45 hours per week is actually unemployed? Do you see anything wrong with that? Anything spinny going on here Vette?

The right wing media machine will come out with a "the only reason the economy is doing better is because of the republican-controlled house" line soon, which all the wingnuts on here will then parrot.

You don't follow the thread do you...

You just pop in and say shit.

So says the guy who was trying to tell me how much better off we were when we had Obama's 9% unemployment (and Obama policies) than Bush as President and 4.6% unemployment.

Obama got us our free health care and house payments.

;) ;)

"Why are you here?"

"To get some money."

"What kind of money?"

"Obama money."

"Where's it coming from?

"Obama."

"And where did Obama get it?"

"I don't know... his stash, I don't know. I don't know where he got it from, but he's givin' it t'us to help us. We love him. That's why we voted for him... Obama! Obama!"

The following headline is "funny"

And sorta shows the NIGGER PROTECTION racket run by the media

First-time filings for jobless benefits continue improved trend, down to 358,000 last week

"Only" 358,000 MORE people filed for unemployment and thats an IMPROVEMENT

Under Bush, when 200-400K jobs were created PER MONTH......It was teh worst economy since H Hoover and everything was BAD

Being a NIGGER is good

No one expects anything and are happy with even less:)

I follow all the posts of substance in this thread... none of which come from wingnuts.

There's a serious disconnect with reality going on with you guys... You should probably look into taking some medication for your condition.

we have, 50% of America not paying income tax! yeah, go team obama

Yeah, those corporations need to pay their fair share.

I don't agree with the bailouts. In a way, this made companies not think outside of the box and when you know you have "cash" they were able to take the easy way out. Why didn't Ford take any money? Maybe it was time for GM to close.

The thing that worries me are the bailouts, borrowing, debt, and size and scope of Government.

I do not agree with out nations business being held hostage by politicians but I do agree that we need to slow down the spending and borrowing.

I would like to see some proof about that claim. In that number does that include retiree's?

MSNBC or was it Current TV last night said that the unemployment number will be going up due to people who gave up looking for jobs will re-enter the job search. If there people are unemployed why aren't they counted in that unemployment percentage? It seems like a way for government to hide how bad things really are?

With jobs, what worries me is the number of people being underemployed as salaries have plummeted in the past 3 years.

So says the guy who was trying to tell me how much better off we were when we had Obama's 9% unemployment (and Obama policies) than Bush as President and 4.6% unemployment.

Hi Jen/Neverendingme. It's cute that you created an alt to quote yourself so people will again be reading you.

The bailouts didn't have anything to do with thinking outside the box. For didn't take money because they didn't need money. The better question is why did Ford go with GM and Chrystler to help beg for a bailout. Common sense would tell you that two of your competitors going out of business would be great for your business. Not only should they not have gone with them, they should have come in immediately after and demanded the government not pick winners and losers. Except had the other two gone down Ford would have been right behind them and they knew it.

The things that worry you are mostly silly.

The nation's businesses are not being held hostage by politicians. If anything the opposite is true as two separate industries (auto and banking) effectively walked into Congress and demanded hundreds of billions of dollars with the unspoken threat of "we'll ruin this country if you don't" and low and behold bipartisan support including Obama and McCain taking a week off from campaigning had us tripping over ourselves to meet their demand. The inteligent thing to do at this point would be start slowly breaking down those mega companies but that's not gonna happen anytime soon.

Why can't we all pay taxes? Why is there a segment in the population exempt from paying any income tax?

I can't believe that 50% of American's do not pay income tax! If true, this is shameful

Because of a lack of a lot of things fifty percent of the population is so poor that we deemed that they need help just staying fed and keeping shelter over their heads. It is shameful that pay in this country is so low that half of America, so you can't call them lazy cus 50% of this country is not crushingly lazy who don't want to work can't afford the basics.

You guys are trying waaay too hard to cook your numbers these days. Every month you have stretch yourselves a little more.

You're already counting retirees and women going on maternity leave as Obama jobs lost. And now people working their tails off in multiple part time jobs count as unemployed?

You've lost all credibility in this debate.

Wait I said what? That 9% unemployment is preferable to 4.6%?

Quote me.

(you're the one cheering for a bad economy, remember?)

No you don't.

I posted about the recovering economy many, many pages ago...

Now, about the shakedown of the banks.

Where is that money going to come from?

Past profits?
Profits?
Future profits?
Future buyers?
Investors?
Capital?

And who benefited? the people getting two grand or the political calculations of the White House?

On another note:

Now that the White House, and are partisan fans of it, are sure that every week now will be nothing but good economic news (until they have to blame gas prices) is that why they felt free to begin the culture war with the Catholic Church?

That is surely going to gain more popularity points for Obama and shore up the Hispanic Community
