What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

but I get to hear stuff like

Why is it that one HAVE to be part of the union? Why can't union membership be optional?

Honestly I agree. Once America has been reduced to slaves and serfs we can debate how stupid you were but until then you'll not listen so lets just do this thing.

Because if you dont join, you get labeled a scab, and they throw rocks at your house or harrass you at work until you bow down to the mighty union boss.....I belong to a union once, they didnt do shit.

So, if you don't play with us we will bully you into playing with us.

Isn't this illegal in most schools?

Because given a choice, union membership would be so far down as to be impotent in advancing Democrat agendas.;)

IMO, unions have killed enough jobs.

For the last 3 years, they've been propped up by Obama. They'll die, if we get a good conservative president.

If they die you may as well say good buy to earning a decent living in this country.

This should be good. What got us out of the Great Depression?

I don't understand that. Technology workers have done very well WITHOUT the union. Unless you consider an Oracle DBA earning base salary of $150k a bad salary

A very small very select, highly specialized group has done well without the union. America has not done well. You might as well talk about any small group that have done well either at present or historically.

Do you think they would do well if they were competing with the 13 million who are currently unemployed?

There will always be people who suceed despite various things around them or even because of them but we don't set society up for them. We work for the average people. It sucks on the occasion that someone great is pulled down because of it but such is life.

Unless you live in the inner city that has been controlled for 40 years by the Democrats, which would make your neighborhood, invariably, a shithole, you clearly don't know what you're talking about.
You arguments are similar to Mamet's, except that his were coherent. Mamet has since seen the light and realized all that talk about how bad things are simply don't agree with what he sees every day in real life.

Actually by raising wages for a select few and consuming that Capital they do two things, they prevent workers who would bid lower from doing the job and thus also limit the total number of jobs (marginal utility) and by destroying Capital they reduce investment in their own company's expansion and the investment in other sectors that would be made by the Capital, so while, on one hand, we see great wages for a few, we do not, however easily discern the loss to the many unless we have a good understanding of basic economic laws.

It is not what got us out of the Great Depression.

Being the only untouched industrialized nation led us out of the Great Depression despite the adoption of Fabian Socialism under the FDR "Deals."

Then why do real wages continue to decline?

Your "blame the worker" strategy has worked well... enjoying that pension/welfare?

Government's theft of Capital and the threat of continued plunder makes Capital accumulation a penalty and with no new incentive to invest and no growth wage earners will bid themselves down as no new appreciable special skills are required by employers suffering from a siege (and hold) mentality.

Then you look the other way while unskilled, cheap labor flows over your border.

Then you provide them benefits beyond the taxes they pay, demand their children be educated and medicated and then you accelerate the decline of free Capital in an effort to pay for increasing benefit for them and the workers you displaced plus the Capital you also need to confiscate in order to support the benefit bureaucracy.

Then you find yourself locked into a death spiral and the only way you decide you can pay for it is to plunder the rich.

When you finally run out of the rich, then the thrivin' runs out and you're no better than any African country that you so smugly used to send aid to and wonder why all that aid never made one whit's worth of difference...

Yeah, I've worked in several unions. One really fucked me, the others just took my money...

And with all of them, I made more money at the non-union meat packing plant.

Heh, was that before all of those Mexican meat packers I've seen you complain about "stole" your job because they were willing to work for less?

Yes it was and that was addressed in the post just above where I discussed why real wages were dropping, but then you still don't read for comprehension, just the cheap attack on viewpoints you don't much agree with.
