The whole reason the Dems voted for the Super Committee in the first place was so they could destroy the Defense budget in a way not available to them in the past, said so months ago and even wrote my Congressman and told him how the Pubs had been suckered. He did tell me he voted against it.

Pick a citizens committee for cuts if they really want any.

And yes it would hugely suck if all those cuts came though. Folks here are already hurting from the far smaller wave of cuts that they've already had. Smaller cost of living allowance, loss of tuition reimbursement, etc.

You see, they think we are the problem in the world, and if we didn't have the ability to present a belligerent face to our enemies, those enemies would reciprocate and peace would break out.

They bought into this super committee structure in order to do what they're doing right now, walk out and blame all that befalls us on the intransigence of the Pubs. They get what they want, they satisfy their base and the President can do what he does best, help shore up his left wing constituency, while blaming the consequences on the party of Bush.
