What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

Mort is a democrat.

And nowhere can you quote Obama saying that the economy is bad BECAUSE of the quake. The quake, the debt crisis in Europe, and other things are factors that hamper the recovery. Wall Street has always acknowledged this.

But if Obama echoes Wall Street's own assessment of the economy, well that's somehow intolerable.

As noted in several posts above, he noted that he had the economy growing again and ran into "bad luck" and mentioned 3 things, one of which was the earthquake in Japan. He said it. Live with it.

He tries to blame eveyone else for the economic problems that he's causing with his horrible policies. People can read what you write (whining and name calling) and what I write and post and come up with their own conclusions. Your position has no substance and the answer is clear.

Obama's Speech on his cornfield tour last month:

"We had reversed the recession, avoided a depression, gotten the economy moving again," Obama told a crowd in Decorah, Iowa. "But over the last six months we’ve had a run of bad luck." Obama listed three events overseas — the Arab Spring uprisings, the tsunami in Japan, and the European debt crises — which set the economy back.

"All those things have been headwinds for our economy," Obama said. "Now, those are things that we can’t completely control. The question is, how do we manage these challenging times and do the right things when it comes to those things that we can control?"

And nowhere did Obama say that the "bad economy" was DUE to the quake in Japan.

He correctly said that it was a temporary setback but nowhere did he say that we have a bad economy because of the quake. You just made that up.

You spin, you lie, and you intentionally misquote.

He is suppose to be a leader, not a follower, MORON.

lol....you're really funny in a ridiculous sort of way.

Job creation for China

President Barack Obama has named Dartmouth Trustee and General Electric CEO Jeffrey Immelt ‘78 as the new head of his economic advisory board. The new board, which will emphasize job creation, will be called the President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness; it will replace the Economic Recovery Advisory Board that had been chaired by former Federal Reserve Chairman Paul Volcker. According to the NYT, “The change signals Obama’s intention to shift from policies that were designed to stabilize the economy after the 2008 financial meltdown to a renewed focus on increasing employment.”

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++And no Western company has been more aggressive in helping China pursue that dream than one of the aviation industry’s biggest suppliers of jet engines and airplane technology, General Electric.

For G.E., the pact is a chance to build upon an already well-established business in China, where the company has booming sales of jet engines, mainly to Chinese airlines that are now buying Boeing and Airbus planes. But doing business in China often requires Western multinationals like G.E. to share technology and trade secrets that might eventually enable Chinese companies to beat them at their own game — by making the same products cheaper, if not better.

BLATANT goal post shifting on your part. First you claimed Obama said the economy was bad because of the quake. Now you quote him as merely saying there were some extra challenges that couldn't be predicted.

Those are two totally different things. You've been caught lying again. Live with it.

You're making a monumentally stupid argument. Just because the president (Dem or Republican) acknowledges external factors are affecting the economy doesn't mean they're "just blaming".

Using your own dipshit logic Republicans were "just blaming everyone else" when 911 spanked the economy. How come it's okay for Republicans to acknowledge external factors but it's not okay when Obama does it? I mean, your dipshit logic says Republicans should have just blamed their own horrible policies for the hit 911 caused the economy. Do you ever think beyond your own myopic attacks?

You lie, you spin, and you carry these fucking preposterous double standards. And it's sickening.

Yeah, when he says that he got the economy going in the right direction and it reversed due to the Tsunami and other factors he didn't really mean to blame the turnback on those events, it just sounded like he said that. What we really heard where the evil subliminal suggestions being whispered towards Obama by the debil Cheney from his ranch in Wyoming carried over a special unassisted long range radio signal created by the tri-laterial commission that made us think that Obama was really saying that the Tsunami was to blame....

lol...you're really funny.

Well first of all let me congratulate you on fully avoiding my point about your stupid double standard. Your hypocrisy knows no bounds. It seems that yes, it really is okay with you when Republicans mention external factors hurting the economy. But when a Democrat does it it's "just blaming".

This is why you come off so stupid and partisan.

And yes, the tsumani and the European debt crisis have been major drags on the economy. But you'll have to take that up with Wall Street and virtually every economist out there. Don't take Obama's word for it. He didn't do the analysis himself. Go attack Wall Street for not knowing how the economy works.

Have fun.

And that's the reason we still have 9% unemployment? lol. The truth is simple, why do you insist on finding 1,000 little "nuanced" reasons for it, none of which have to do with Obama's anti-growth policies? You sound like John Kerry trying to explain what he really meant when reflecting on his congressional hearings many years earlier when he first came back from Viet Nam (and was clearly lying). The democrats caused the problem with social-engineering driven real estate policies in the first place, they stretched the pain out with a long series of ill-advised anti-business programs and they take every opportunity to try to shift the blame in a half-hearted effort to retain a few votes in the elections next year.

If we wanted to have a spin-free zone, the dems would just come out and say "Our redistributionist policies just don't work, it's been proven once again. We screwed up with the real estate policies, we tried to reduce the pain during the economic slow-down which just prolonged it and our policies are going to continue to restrict economic growth so the best thing for the American public to do would be to vote us out and let the Republicans fix things so we can get back on the path of economic recovery and growth".

Stop talking to yourself, MORON.

I'm not partisan, I only want what's best for America.

While there's some good things about this administration, on the whole, it's causing a lot of problems for our economy and by extension, the millions who are unemployed and underemployed. Obama's hope and change speeches a few years ago were inspiring, but hope and change is no substitute for substantial leadership and we should have recognized that Obama's lack of any practical experience was a big warning flag.

Now we know better and it's time for a change.

*eyes watering*

No you're not partisan. You just get your information from the shittiest partisan corners of the right wing blogosphere, take it to heart, and spam it at every opportunity.

Fair and Balanced...

Have a good cry.

I would have voted for RFK. He had the tax approach right and I also really liked the "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country" part. That's a long cry from today's pirate rent-seeking democrats.

Isn't that... a JFK quote? From his inaugural address?

Like those protesting in Greece last year, most modern democrats belong to the "Want mo' handouts" party.

What's hilarious, is that wall street will react (strongly) based on these things, but if Obama mentions it, then somehow he's to blame for wall street reacting to them.
