What happened to all of the doom and gloom economic threads?

I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.

Ben Franklin, 1766

It's reality.

And the sad part is, you won't believe it until your 401K is worthless...

:(

I know. I know. The Democrats are going to save us. All we have to do is shut up and go along to get along...

Just a follow-up from something I bookmarked. AJ predicted two years ago that "reality" is that our 401(k)s will be worthless. The Dow was at 10,012 that day and now it's at 13,412. Did AJ's prediction come true for anyone? Anyone manage to lose their retirement investments during a time the Dow SKYROCKETED 34.1%?

Will AJ own up to his failed prediction or continue to be a cowardly wussbag? Stay tuned!

Al Gore Hurried Current TV Sale to Al Jazeera to Avoid Obama’s Tax Hikes by

Thickest. Irony. Ever.

Al Jazeera did not disclose the purchase price, but people with direct knowledge of the deal pegged it at around $500 million, indicating a $100 million payout for Mr. Gore, who owned 20 percent of Current. Mr. Gore and his partners were eager to complete the deal by Dec. 31, lest it be subject to higher tax rates that took effect on Jan. 1, according to several people who insisted on anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly. But the deal was not signed until Wednesday.

Taxes, like most other laws, are for the little people. Just ask David Gregory and his pet apologist Howard Kurtz.

Yes we know, they adopted standard Democrat operating procedure.

Governing with pledges instead of rational thought considerate of the situation the country is facing is the epitome of bad leadership. You should support a better party. But kudos to the minority of Republican legislators who declined to sign the pledge.

He supports the KKK party.

Not sure if they're better, but at least they're more honest.

I support people, they just happen to be in the Republican Party right now.

When John Huntsman stood up in the Republican primary and said he prefers to lead by making the right decision instead of a lifelong pledge, we all knew he was the wisest of the bunch. And probably the most electable. But we also knew he didn't have a prayer since the GOP primary process is so efficient at weeding out electable candidates. (edit: transplant)

that's nonsense

he said what he said for the SHOCK factor, nothing else

a PLEDGE, is fine, so long as the content of the PLEDGE is OK

that BILLS were supposed tp be read by the public and Congress is a pledge that should be taken seriously

There was no shock. Huntsman is a reasonable, rational, thinking person which is why conservatives wanted nothing to do with him. He's an oddity among your ilk nowadays which is why he never reached 3% support.

look

when you enter a room of like minded people

and say something that makes you stick out

its done for one reason

TO MAKE YOU STICK OUT

the fact he said he plans to do the RIGHT THING as opposed tp PLEDGES

means all the others in his opinion wouldn't do the right thing

FUCK HIM!

The 'new' Republican appears to prefer losing and whining to winning. It's an odd feel-good thing with them.

It makes them the "underdogs", and losing is a place that their LCD constituency is very comfortable with.

If they won, they'd have to actually do something, act on something, and 2010 showed what a disaster that was.

GOP Debate:

MODERATOR:
"I hear each of you say you're in favor of spending cuts but not raising taxes. But if a compromise was possible where there would be $10 in spending cuts for every $1 in new revenue would you accept it?"

SEVEN REPUBLICAN CANDIDATES: "Nope, no way. No tax increases ever".

HUNTSMAN: "You bet your ass I I would take it! That would be a huge victory for conservativism and we'd get a lot of deficit work done and get this country back on track."

Therefore Huntsman was shunned and marginalized. But turns out he was right and the Republican party was wrong: you'd all instantly have taken the $640 billion in revenue if it meant $6.4 trillion in spending cuts. But instead the GOP is left voting for a package not with a 10:1 ratio, but a 0:640,000,000 ratio.
