What gets in you the mood for writing?

Right now, I've got loads of stuff that's been half done for about a week or so. I just can't find the right place to knuckle down and get on with things. Anyone have a routine or even a piece of music that puts them in the right frame of mind?

I have no idea how ideas/images for stories drop into my mind, but, when they do, I'm in the mood to write.

I create challenges for me to master. At the moment the challenge involves tossing to-be verbs and pronouns like THIS THAT and THESE and more.

Just last night I watched a master pianist demonstrate the difference between playing straight and playing right. A big difference in the same score.

Then you should check out the artists I just mentioned; they're not metal, which seems to be your preference, but considering a lot of your stories have action/adventure elements and badass characters as well, I think it might be right up your alley never-the-less.

Off to check it out. I mean Two steps from Hell? How could I go wrong?:D

Get in the mood to write? I'm very seldom out of the mood to write.

Well having sex is NO help at all! That's get me out of the mood in a hurry. However, a half-hour of unrequited porn viewing usually gets me wound up enough to spew several pages of drivel.

I wish I knew. Unlike TxRad, above, I often am not in the mood to write, and I have to force myself to do so to make progress on stories I'm writing. At other times I sit down at my computer and the words flow easily. I can't figure out what brings on those spells, but I wish I could.

Bingo!

I could just as easily give up breathing as I can writing.

Like LC, I love having music cranking while writing, but I can write anywhere, anytime music or no music.

That's pretty much the same as me, except I don't feel as though I should force myself. I don't think it yields the best results. That's not to say it doesn't work for other people.

Actually, even posting this thread is more procrastination...

A PC answer.

This thgread gave me a brain fart for a book Laurel will never post.

Its a Jack the Ripper tale about a political candidate/serial killer to die for if y oure a liberal.

Over the years, I have learned to set a time to write and try my best to stick to it. After a couple of NaNo's I found that using this strategy made writing easier. Things flowed better. But to each their own.

I usually have half a dozen stories I'm working on so I'll pick the one that suits my mood best. I usually have a song for each story so I play that on a loop while I'm on that story. And I'll read thru what I've written and edit it to get into the beat of the story. Mostly tho I just start writing. I work them thru in my head when I'm not writing so when I start I already have a good idea of what's coming next. Mostly.

A keyboard and a screen. A cup of coffee or a glass of wine can sometimes help, too. :)

I'm repeating Pilot. When I have an idea then I'm ready to write.

That's all it takes: a character, an idea, an image, and I want to write.

A blowjob always helps.

I find that a bit distracting coz it's hard to write when you can't see the keyboard and your mouth is full. Lol. On the other hand, it often tells me my pilot reader finds my story exciting.

Well I was referring to receiving one. Easier to see the keyboard when she's under the desk. ;)

Perhaps for you a good tongue lashing would do the trick. :D

I'm always in the mood to write. I'm always ready to write. I eat, sleep, and dream of writing.

I write at the same time every day, 7 days a week from 4:30 am to 11:30 am. I never stare at a blank page and I always and only write when inspired. Inspired writing is the best writing.

If you're stuck, my best advice is not to think about writing. Instead, take whatever you want to write to bed with you. The last thought you should have before falling asleep is the story that you want to write. Your brain will percolate your story for you. Then, when you awaken, you won't be able to type fast enough to get everything written.

This may take some practice but it really works. Another trick, is just going for a walk to clear your mind.

Good luck with your writing.
