I'm ditching the one I've got. I so hate Microsoft and Hotmail just makes me feel slimey. The only upside is MSN Messenger. It and Explorer are the only MS Products I own that are allowed access to the Internet.

Oy.

So. I'm comparison shopping. Be my Consumer Reports.

What's your preference?
How many megs storage do you have?
What kind of "down time" have you experienced?
How colorful is it, and would you find it warm, cool, or neutral?
Is the base page color white?
Do you get a lot of spam for no reason that you can figure out?

That kinda thing.

:)

i use hotmail and yahoo ... i hate them both but they have advantage that lisa can check into them if she needs to and i can view them from work

i dont seem to get any spam from yahoo but i get about 500 a week from hotmail :)

Same here, which is why I choose Yahoo.

Hotmail can "filter" all they want... but, frankly, I think they feed you spam in hopes of you buying their bigger mailbox.

yeah and when you filter it it says they it wont count against your space but for me it does ... maybe thats because i dont have delete straight away turned on ... but i dont have that because hotmail once put lisa's email to me in junk email (she wasnt happy about that :))

I hate hotmail, their pages take so damn long to load and you get huge amounts of spam. The problem is everyone uses msn messenger, so I'm kinda stuck with it. I'm going to switch to yahoo, they give you more storage (6 MB), the pages are simpler and faster, generally better.

I did use genie.co.uk for a while but it sucks, you can't put messages in different folders and the rate of spam at that account is increasing steadily, so I'm going to abandon it eventually.

I use hotmail and yahoo purely for their messengers and www.gmx.net for other mail stuff. I like GMX because it is simple, it is straightforward and it isn't owned by MS or any other big company. Unfortunately there is a lot of advertising on its page and the font isn't too big but well, a small price to pay.

What's your preference? I don't really have one; I haven't found one I really truly like. I currently use Yahoo. I also used Hotpop at one time, but it was so unreliable I closed that account. Hotpop is not web-based, it is POP based.

What kind of "down time" have you experienced? None really.

Is the base page color white? yes.

Do you get a lot of spam for no reason that you can figure out? I don't have to figure it out; I get SPAM from porn sites that lead me to believe they are going to give me free access, ask for my email, etc., then demand money and a credit card on the next page, among others. I also get SPAM from Yahoo too - but not that much of it. Yahoo used to allow people to block addresses, but then they went to an optional pay plan, and POP access and blocking are now only available in the pay plan. They do have a builtin filter for "bulk mail" and that catches a lot - but you can't add addys to it. Oh, and Yahoo POP access is unreliable to the extreme.

I use one Yahoo address for here and for porn sites - that is my totally anonymous addy (shymcguy@yahoo.com), and I have another that I used to use for all other email, but now I don't use that any more because I have a new ISP that has good reliable POP access, is inexpensive ($10 per month) and unreliable web mail access (so far, the web mail access is new).

Next month, Hotmail will be eliminating free POP mail access. I'm looking for another web-based e-mail myself.

Although they haven't eliminated their POP access Yahoo has chosen to charge for their POP service. The web mail is still free and still has more storage then Hotmail.

I have been using lycos and have found it to be more trouble free than any of the others I have tried. (yahoo and hotmail) Too much spam at yahoo. Still have hotmail for msn messenger. Hope you find the one that's right for you!:)

hotmail cause like always when was in school they frigged up the student accounts and system trying to make it better, so i just used that as my e-mail addy for college

I have hotmail, which I use sparingly.

I use my yahoo addy for most stuff. I do like it, for the most part.

When spam gets out of control, I open a new account.

I find it far more user friendly than hotmail.

I have excite, yahoo AND hotmail.

I don't get a lot of spam at excite, but I rarely give out that address for anything unless I know it is important. Excite has been going through growing pains lately...down time, new pages, etc, but it is getting better.

Yahoo is okay too, but I still get the occasional spam, and it is slow sometimes. I use that one for stuff that I don't want associated with my real name. (meaning, Lit stuff mostly)

Hotmail just basically sucks. I use that address for anything that I know is going to generate spam and I only check it once a week to throw everything in it out.

I actually use hotmail and MSN. I've had very little issues.

I've got Netscape and Hotmail...

but I'm looking around for another.

I can no longer acces my Netscape account unless I go through Outlook Express and Hotmail has given me all the problems listed above.

I'll probably end up with Yahoo...

:)

The one thing I like about MSN messenger is that you don't need a hotmail account to use it. Your e-mail address coulda shut down forever and a day ago and you could still sign into messenger.

I have an AOL account on another computer that I use for my e-mail. It sucks, but I'm used to it.

I just use my school account and my AOL, but my mother seems to like Mail.com

I use Yahoo, and the Lit. mail.

As for the MSN, it let me use my Yahoo address for whatever it does. (I never signed up for hotmail.) It sends my mail out through Outlook express.

I don't get much spam on either.

I haven't experienced any down time on either. The Yahoo schemes are changeable. But I think the original color is grey, red and white??

I think the Lit mail uses the ice blue color scheme.
