What exactly is Putin's victory scenario in this war?

Does he hope to annex all Ukraine into Russia? Or only the Russian-majority breakaway provinces? Or what?

What ever he does, he needs to win quickly with minimum casualties. I do not think the Russian people will support a long, expensive, inconclusive war.

That's what they'll get, if they try to occupy Ukraine. It will be like Afghanistan, with an interminable insurgency.

Both Russia and Belarus have fucked themselves. They are both in a war they can never win.

And they are a lot closer and look more like Russians to be able to bring it to downtown Moscow than the Afghanis were.

he's unified the EU bloc, probably gained rapid acceptance of the Ukraine as an EU member, has caused global companies to dump russian interests, has harmed his own country substantially by crashing the ruble, getting cut off from SWIFT, disrupting so much international russian trade, brought condemnation to russia from countries around the world, caused the deaths of thousands of his countrymen...

so
much
winning

Shell is getting out of Russia and ditching its joint ventures with Gazprom, including its involvement with the moribund Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline.

The UK-based oil company said Monday it would dump its 27.5% stake in the Sakhalin-2 liquified natural gas facility, its 50% stake in a project to develop the Salym fields in western Siberia and its 50% interest in an exploration project in the Gydan peninsula in northwestern Siberia.

"We are shocked by the loss of life in Ukraine, which we deplore, resulting from a senseless act of military aggression which threatens European security," Shell CEO Ben van Beurden said in a statement.

Shell's move follows BP's announcement Sunday that it was abandoning one of Russia's biggest foreign investments by exiting its 19.75% stake in Rosneft and associated joint ventures. Analysts said Monday that BP could take a hit of more than $26 billion as it walks away from its business in the country.

i'd go so far to say that anyone siding with russia in this are all headed the same way, so a political death-knell for t, his ardent followers, belarus' administration (eventually, but isolation for now). ANY t-supporters are too avid, too blind to the worldwide condemnation to understand they are on the wrongest side of history here.

he flees to switzerland and he and his money live happily ever after, while the russians reacquaint with beetroot and cabbage, then sadly the swiss fuck his idea up, finding that nazi gold was ok, but russian blood money is something else.

belarus gets fucked royally.

I have to assume the initial assumption was that Ukraine would just collapse, and Putin could install a client government a la Belarus.

This can't happen now: the invasion has pissed too many people off, and even if they manage to somehow install a government, it could never last without an occupation that's probably beyond Russia's means.

And would NEVER be recognised in the West.

Someone always profits from war.

He wants their pipe lines, their natural gas, and their ports. Kind of hard to get all those without a complete take over of the entire country.

For ports, he already has the Crimea. And Ukraine imports its gas.
He wants their natural gas, pipelines, and ports. The gas he wants is still in the ground and he wants to use their pipelines for free. The ports were just an appetizer.

Ukraine today holds the second biggest known gas reserves in Europe. As of late 2019, known Ukrainian reserves amounted to 1.09 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, second only to Norway’s known resources of 1.53 trillion cubic meters.

Gordon Ramsey, famous chef is now joining in, some of the reviews he is leaving on russian restaurants are quite scathing, linking them to news items aswell, thermobaric chicken please to go with my beetroot and cabbage . with a side of dead ukrainian child, killed by a russian soldier in your name - sorry i cant leave a tip, also the russian rouble or is that rubble will soon be worthless, id start trading in cabbage again or maybe sunflower seeds since the red cross will soon be bringing your sons home with pockets full of them. nice wall paper though.

I continue to be concerned that Putin will continue his military adventurism in Ukraine, despite the fact that it makes no sense. He could continue to cause massive losses.

During the period of 2016 through 2021, the U.S. got a taste of what it's like to have a delusional leader. Putin has been isolated for a much longer period of time.

Isn't sushi Japanese?
my exact thoughts, there are shit loads of sushi restaurants in russia though.

Еда была отличной! К сожалению, Путин испортил наши аппетиты, вторгшись в Украину. Противостаньте своему диктатору, прекратите убивать невинных людей! Ваше правительство лжет вам. Вставай!

seems to be a common review.

Of course he will. Ask yourself, what would Trump do? Would he continue to lash out even after losing? Putin wants to kill anyone that opposes him. He will kill millions before this ends

His original plan was to annex all of Ukraine and eventually the rest of the former Soviet satellites but now it's easy to see his plan is probably subject to hourly revision. He should have known, "No plan survives contact with the enemy" ― Erwin Rommel.
