I have a feeling the answer to this is really obvious, but I'm stumped. I've received a couple of private messages asking me if I'm an ALT. What is that? I've been trying to figure it out from context, but just can't get it. Help me please?

ALT is a alternite user name if I understand correctly. What they are asking is if you are really new or if you are an older member just acting like some one new.

People want to know if you have a previously existing lit name. Some of us are naturally paranoid and spread the contagion around.

People do that? Use more than one name. That must be exhausting. Why would anyone do that?

At least I know it's safe to say that I'm not an ALT.

I have two other names. One is jeanne_d_artois. I used her as an attempt to write stories from a female instead of a male POV (point of view). I came clean (or came out of the cupboard) on April 1.

Several of us have alts or noms de plume because we write different styles of stories under the different names.

My other alt is Fag-Ash_Lil, a character in one of jeanne_d_artois' stories Unatit. That alt is not serious and occasionally passes through the board muttering nonsense.

Most people on the AH know that I am also jeanne_d_artois and the link to 'her' stories is in my signature at the end of this post.

I think that my alts are legitimate and I do not make a secret of them.

However, some people use alts to harass and annoy. That is discourteous whether under their main name or under an alias.

Of course oggbashan itself is a nom-de-plume for someone who has a real life existence outside Literotica. We are not always who we say we are. That is true on Literotica and elsewhere on the net.

Just trying to keep it straight to post on the bulletin boards with more than one name seems silly. And really tiring.

How many people will "confess" to having an ALT? Is it really a big secret? This is all so fascinating.

It's not public who my alt is. Tho there are a few folks who know. So it's not a big secret. And my alt hasn't done anything very exciting, so it doesn't matter if it's discovered.

Why do I have alts? Because different moods strike me. I'm a switch, of quite dramatic degrees, you see, and Shocky is my nasty bitch Domme side. Lou is my "normal"/usual (subby) self. They are both me, just different facades of me. I find I can be really me whoever I am, just in different ways.

At the end of the day, it's just a bit of fun, and never meant to deceive anyone.

Oh, and I (Katie/Tatelou) am also the Author's Hangout Thread Archiver - the need for that alt is self-explanatory.

This ID was an ALT in the beggining. Just a way to be able to do what I wanted without a certain person I live with trolling me all over the place.

But, I don't use the other ID since I started using this one so I don't feel it's deceiving and I never used them both in the same forums.
