Errr, not quite. A masochist is someone who derives satisfaction (not necessarily pleasure) from having pain inflicted upon them. A sadist is someone who derives satisfaction from inflicting. "Sadomasochist" is usually taken to mean a person who enjoys being on both ends of the flogger.

Usually you'll see it broken 3 ways. BDSM= B/D, S/m, D/s

Bondage and Discipline (B/D), Dominance and Submission (D/S) and Sadomasochism (S/M). It makes for a pretty large tent that includes things "normal" couples do even if they don't know what bdsm stands for.
