I think I avoid a lot of these contests because they are money making schemes that in no way benefit me. Take poetry.com for instance. They will publish anything and then offer you the "opportunity" to purchase your very own copy of the book it's published in for 49.95 and for a limited time I think you get a can opener and some window cleaner too.

Thats why I am reticent about entering contests. I wan tto know if my writing actually has merit.
