What do you say to someone

The only thing that sounds right to me is 'I adore you'

Yeah, I've been in a similar situation. "I like you" seems to weak to properly convey the emotion and You don't want to say "I love you" for some reason or another. In my case it's because it's so volatile a phrase sometimes. Since English is limited for descriptions of the like/love half-step, you are probably going to have to get a little more detailed with how you feel exactly.

Ever think about just saying how you feel? They might run at first, but if there's any reciprocal feelings, they'll come back. If they don't, nothing you could have, or would have said would have made a difference anyway.
