I always assumed that drivers were supposed to pull over no matter what lane they were in and no matter what direction the sirens were coming from, or at least thats what it says in one of my drivers manuals.

But watching Real TV and cop chases and cops and all those others "reality" programs it seems that this is not the case, i seldom ever on any of these shows see anyone pulling over in towns, cities or highways.

Do you pull over? do you even acknowledge the sirens? what do you do?

I can't say that I always come to a complete stop but I do get the hell over so that they can get by me at least.

If I'm driving, and I'm in their way, I pull over. If there is a median seperating us, I keep on driving.

If I'm at home, I usually stick my head out the door and tell the dogs to shut the hell up. Nothin makes me crazier than listenin to a dog howling.

I get over and out of the way, then I flip off the idiot behind me who tries to get in front of me before I can get back into the lane.

I arm myself to the teeth and hole up in my bunker.

DOWN WITH THE NEW WORLD ORDER!

me

If it's a cop I run rough shot blockin him so the other guy can get away. If its an ambulance I pull over if I'm in the right lane, otherwise I just go to the right lane and keep going. If the cops after me?....I fuckin shit.

I either get over, or if there's someone to the right of me I just scoot over as far as I can and stop.

On a highway.. I keep driving. I feel a little guilty about it.

One question that popped into my head today was what do you do when a funeral procession goes by?

I believe the correct thing to do is pull over, but today one was going by on the opposite side of the road, and nobody pulled over.

The proper move is to Beep and wave, unless of course your in the funeral yourself. Then you just lay back and enjoy the ride.

When I am here and I hear any of the above...

I pull my computer over to the side of the desk, making sure there is room for them to pass me.

I turn off the screen so that I don't get arrested for having an obscene screen saver that they might spot as they went past.

If I hear sirens, I automatically pull over. Legally, aren't you supposed to or you're blocking emergency vehicles? If it's a cop, I'm hoping the bells & whistles aren't for me :D

All ways try to get outa the way here in the uk
esp if its a fire or medic truck

God forbid they might be trying to save one of your own

$.02 from a firefigher/paramedic:

If it is possible to pull over, please do. If it isn't possible, just STOP, especially near an intersection. If you have no way to get off the road/out of the way, stop. The driver of the emergency vehicle can pick their way thru traffic easier if it's not moving. It's faster and much easier to negotiate an intersection or busy street when you don't have to "guess" where the vehicle that is moving is going.
