There is sooo much I detest in the way we live today... so much I would change about our culture if I could. I supose that, with out the lowest common denominator, those things I find beautiful in another human being, art, or thought would become trite... but the LCD still rubs me wrong on an everyday basis.

What do I despise about mainstream culture?

Pop music
Feminazis
Lifetime - Television for angry militant castrating lesbians
Teenybopper magazines
Shitty song covers
The rising trend of hating smokers just because they smoke
The rapidly dropping intelligence level of television
"Teen" movies

I could go on and on like this..

One thing that really bothers me is the way body image is portrayed, especially on TV and in movies. Every woman should be a size 2, according to the women I see there. it does nothing to help the self-image of women who are considered overweight or even average.

lol, there was a petite lil girl, a size 2 in my high school.. Perfect fashion model type.. We used to make jokes about how we couldn't have sex with her cuz we'd break her ;)

Good thread

I despise the way our society takes such care to measure every word so as not to hurt or offend any particular group. But when it comes to people in our own lives such as family we don't give a shit.....we will hurt the ones we love.

The desire to commercialize evreyone's life. Nobody wants to pay attention to themselves anymore. It's all about, "Real Television", and things that point out everyone else's life screw-up's. I believe society needs to start focusing on #1 and make sure they don't step in #2. The more we look at our self, the less we can point at others.

Boy bands.
Christendom.
Girls who think slut clothes are sexy.
Anorexia and bulimia.
Gratuitous cosmetic surgery.

My list.

Close mindedness (Traditional Values? Bah! Humbug.)
Political Correctness (Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar)
The commercialization of EVERYTHING!
Arrogent little suburben whiteboys wearing FuBu shirts...
(Like my brother... )
Macho displays of stupidity (Doesn't impress me)
Lack of THOUGHT!

Wiggers.. White boys who have been born and raised in vermont wearing thick down parkas, bandanas, big gold jewelry, hats on at a funny angle, listening to Nas and throwing eachother gang signs screamin "WASSUP MY NIGGA?!?! EEEAAAASSYYIIIIIDE BIOTCH!"

The increasing litigiousness of society. It just irks me that people can't sort it out without resorting to a legal system which has better things to do. Claims lawers will disagree with me of course.

And obvious lies. Our society is strewn with the things. Government, education and finance all have lies which are so obvious that it beggars belief as to why the pretence is maintained.

The mockery of traditional values,Political Correctness,Glorification of meaningless Celebrities/Sport Stars,Politicians who claim to care about the "American People",Commercialization of everything,Millionaire Liberals who know whats best for the serfs,People who do not take responsibility for there actions.Im sure I could add more but that covers it for now.----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First and foremost - the inability of most people to think critically or even just to have a rational thought from time to time. This, IMO, is the basis for all the rest of what I despise in mainstream culture. It is increasingly apparent in our speech; more and more people are saying "I feel we need to do this....", rather than "I think we need to do this...".

The attitude that rather than earning what we want or need in life, that we are entitled to it, even if it means we have to take it from others. This justifies behavior that ranges from grand larceny to voting for social welfare programs.

The increasing attitude that we are less and less personally responsible for our actions, their consequences and the situations we find ourselves in. Cognate is the attitude that the government is increasingly responsible and the best solution to many personal problems.

The decreasing respect for life, human or otherwise.

The tendency towards fads, rumors, group hysteria, and mob mentality.

My list....

Hypocrisy, hypocrisy, hypocrisy

Closedmindedness

And why the Hell is everyone so rude these days? What ever happened to having good manners?

bluemuse

The complete lack of personal responsibility. Every single act of reprehensible behavior is blamed on childhood, addiction, lack of education, being too poor/wealthy/pretty/ugly/fat/thin on and on and on.

Nothing makes it ok to consistently be an asshole.

And Tim1... I totally agree. We strive to be polite as hell to complete strangers, and then come home and treat our spouses and kids as if they mean nothing.

What do I despise about the mainstream culture?

Computers, especially the ones connected to the internet

Two words : The Gap.

And all the other stores that sell clothing that are totally blah, but for some reason very expensive.

Down with cloning!! :D

It bugs me that I live in the "Land of the Free" and it seems like it should be the "Land of the Free to Conform". If you don't conform then you are just marginalized. This isn't really all that new, but your would think civilization could mature over time.

If you are stick thin - there must be something wrong with you.
If you smoke - there must be something wrong with you.
If you don't shop at the GAP - there must be something wrong with you.
If you don't go to the right church - there must be something wrong with you.
If you don't use the write language - there must be something wrong with you.
