What Defines Facial Beauty In A Woman For You?

I have often read books, seen documentaries, and listened to the fashion/model industry try to define what is beautiful in terms of facial beauty....the fashion industry even attempts to guide our ideas in these terms as well, often very successfully with some. Tonight I was watching Saira Khan in the documentary she was doing on Pakistan and commented to F how I thought she was a beautiful woman to look at (also on the inside I suspect, and of course her clothes being typical for the region were very pleasing to me as well) and he responded with his observation that I tend to like Asian, Indian and Pakistani women a lot.

I hadn't actually given it a lot of thought and would even extend that to Middle Eastern, Spanish and South American women, and so began the thought process of what it is I find beautiful about them, what it is I look for in a woman's face. So far I have defined it as my first and strongest attraction point is strength within the face, a strong character shining through. Not bitchy, nasty, moody or self centered, but just plain strong. I also love a positiveness about the face...smiles are lovely but I don't necessarily go for someone because they are always laughing, just the knowledge they can and will smile openly and honestly when the moment presents itself. Thirdly I think are eyes....I love dark eyes, vibrant a lively eyes, mysterious eyes. So what works for you or doesn't work?

I know what I think is pretty, and I know what I think isn't, but I have no idea how to describe it.

Wow, that was a great answer, huh?

I once read somewhere that scientists did a study on what people thought of as "beautiful," and it all came down to symmetry. The more symmetrical a woman's face was, the more beautiful that other people were likely to think she was. I have no idea how much water that idea holds, though. I know I tend to be a good bit more lenient in what I think is "pretty" than most people are.

I love smooth skin the colour of chocolate.

Luna (wherever is she these days?) looked wonderful to me, beautiful skin and hypnotic eyes.

But overall eyes and a laughing smile can distract from any small imperfections.

If a face is animated then it is beautiful, when someone is talking with passion about a subject they love, their whole face lights up; eyes and smile become instantly brighter.

Beauty is within all of that

clear skin. piercing eyes (usually of a color, blue, green, etc), not a lot of makeup.

Yes, I have read that theory too. I also seem to see beauty where some others don't. LOL, last night F finally conceded Penelope Cruz does not actually look that beautiful ( I have long said I don't see her as beautiful except in the occasional shot that seems to get her at the right angle or something)...of course when he began to see it my way, she was standing next to Selma Hayek who I have never disputed is gorgeous. :D

As you say though, it is very difficult to define it in exact terms, but interesting to try. Pretty is OK, but unless the pretty face has a strong character, I am bound to look past her.

Catalina :D

That is a hard question because I can say which people I find beautiful, but most are different.

Overall i tend to like a round and yes, very symmetric face. Tiffany Amber Thesian is a great example of a nice round face, but I love all women, and very few can I say aren't beautiful in their own ways.

Clean looking, smooth skin of any color, expressive eyes, and a smile usually get it for me. That's the abridged version.

Big eyes and long eyelashes, a well shaped mouth and nice lips, pale, almost porcelain like skin (like Amy Lee...)

I recall watching a special several years ago with John Cleese & Elizabeth Hurley and it mirrored what BiBunny was saying about symmertry. It was a fascinating, scientific and totally watchable program. It's here if anyone wants to get more info.

Personally, I think that the variations in symmetry are what make people interesting, exotic & memorable.

I'm reading a book right now. The title is Uglies. It's about a society in which, on your sixteenth birthday you are put through procedures while you are "sleeping" to become "pretty".

One of the things they do is make you symmetrical. Some people don't think it's a good idea and that, in fact, uniqueness is more beautiful but the majority of society seems to lose all ambition other than being "pretty."

I know there is a dark nasty side to this society. I can guess what it is. It hasn't be revealed in the book so far though.

Who cares? That's what they make paper bags for.

I HAVE to get back to work but do you know what a three bagger is?

That's when you put a bag over her face, your face and the dogs face, she's so ugly. (Or flip it for a male if you wish. Hell you can even add a cat in there if you lke!)

*snickers*

Cruel humor was bred into me from the womb.

Oh, sorry... I thought this was going to be about something else. ;)

I like rounder facial features. Sharper faces are attractive too, of course, but my personal preference goes towards the rounder faces... frankly usually attached to curvier women.

To tell the truth I don't necessarily prefer one kind of face to another. I've been known to find a person pretty that no one else did - it's their face, and what you see there. I also find some stereo-typical beautiful/handsome people just not as beautiful as others think they are. Like Brad Pitt - I DO NOT see the attraction there, he's not that good looking. I think character is beautiful.

Two traits stand out for me here...

Her eyes and her smile.

Personality is everything to me and it is most demonstrated by the expressiveness of a woman's eyes and in how she smiles. I want to be able to get lost in the eyes of my partner and to have her smile light up my day... and I think that the two together sum up quite well how I evaluate physical beauty in a woman.

They are the only physical characteristics I insist on in a partner... expressive eyes and a beatiful smile, and in both cases, it is HOW she expresses both, not their shape or features that are important. The rest is window dressing and meaningless...

I can't really say how I define beauty in a face. Maybe it's like porn..I can't describe it but I know it when I see it!? LOL I'm with Catalina though..in that I think women from India and that region are some of the most gorgeous I have ever seen. I recently watched Bride and Prejudice and found Aishwarya Rai to be breathtaking. Cute movie too!

But can someone explain Sarah Jessica Parker for me? Coz I don't see it.

I think a face is most beautiful when you see the beauty within shining through...REALLY...

Like maybe an old woman with a really wrinkly face like she lived a hard life, but she is looking at her grandbaby with tenderness and awe...and her beauty shines through...

Yeah, me either. Or Cameron Diaz. I just SO do not get it.

Opposites

I tend to admire features which I feel I lack and which are the complete opposite to me. Like contrast (A very fair complexion with very dark or red hair) and full lips... I don't know if there is any underlying reason for that- but there you have it.

My sister and I have a theory - the smarter you are, the less attractive you find Uma Thurman. We have this anecdotally backed up.

That's cause if you're smart you LOOK at her face. I can see why she made a good model - she has really strong bones (to strong to be classically beautiful), and will probably get prettier the older she gets, but most people don't look over her LONG legs, which even I will admit are gorgeous.

*buffs nails, blows, smiles and laughs*

Bitch has always looks like a heroin addict to me. Ugh!

I've got a thing about wide mouths with fuller lips. I like hawkish features in men and largish noses. I'm more conventional about female beauty --- I find Monica Bellucci and Salma Hayek gorgeous but Kirsten Dunst and Sienna Miller are plain as Quaker Oats.

I have a serious wide on for Willem Dafoe and Jeff Kober although I'm aware that they are "ugly" men. Dominic West (the villain in 300) has just about the sexiest predatory mouth I've ever seen, but at the same time I find James Marsden's and Vince Vaughn's mouths can get me twitterpated as well.

Eyes are nice, but I'm more of a mouth and teeth person.

Okay I know this is kind of hard to see sometimes but for me it is intellegence. She could have the nicest legs, biggest tits, most symetrical face, but if there isn't intellegence behind those eyes, no thank you.
