If you don't wish to post them just vote anonymously. My goal isn't so much to know what each individual's beliefs are, although I welcome that, but rather to know the make up of the board.

I grouped some religions, religion groups together, not because they are less important/significant, but because I can only have so many choices in a poll. Others I have broken out because I am interested in learning if there are any people here with those beliefs - an example is Latter Day Saints (Mormons), in that case because of the LDS church's teachings beliefs/position on porn/etc.

I voted "other" since I have no religious affiliation whatsoever. I was never baptised and really have had no interest in religion. Of course my partner's mother is convinced I'm going to hell ;)

I believe in God, but couldn't tell you which one. So I picked Other.

My problem with athiesm is that, well, science can't answer my basic question about where the Universe came from. See, there is never a circumstance where you can get something from absolutely nothing in science. Ergo, there has to be something that created it because I'm human and I want a beginning, it just always existed doesn't do it for me.

Had to go with Other.

I am more of my own religion:

Seventh Day United Bapticostlyn Asemblies of Yahweh's Witnesses to the Latter Praise The Lord and Halleluah

So far I am the only member and I likes it that way

You of course can vote as you wish, but that sounds like I would classify that as secular/nonreligious/atheist/agnostic.

For those wondering my affiliation; I am a Christian.

I would have added nonsectarian Epicurian, but I couldn't figure out which category that went into. ;)

Side note....

One million lower caste Hindu Indians are expected to convert en masse to Buddhism today.

I went with other too.
I believe there is a controlling power somewhere out there...but I seriously doubt it is the way it has been portraited in the Bible, Choran(sp) or whichever religious book you may find.

Celestial....

It was on CNN. There is some form of group ceremony, I assume that it is in several locations around the country, rather than logistically gathering that many people. Try the CNN website... CNN.com or other news sites, you should be able to find more info.

I just thought it an interesting thing, to me anyway.

Christian, as I've stated on the bb more than once or twice.

I was born into An Irish-Catholic family but have since joined the Quakers.

The Society of Friends consider themselves Christians, and are considered to be Christians by mainstream Christianity - did you vote that way?

It was reported on NPR this morning, too. I looked at the CNN and MSNBC websites and did a Google search, but all I can find is an earlier story from 9/9 about 6,000 Dalits converting en masse to Buddhism in protest of the caste system. Apparently today's conversion was considerably larger.

For what it's worth...

Other

I presume that includes Satanism?

:)

i was baptised catholic, but have not practiced in many many years...i have a problem with the catholic lust for money, just rubs me wrong...i do believe in a god though, just dont think he wants me to give him money all the time, i would prefer to believe he wants me to do good things for all people.

regarding Hinduism/Buddhism shift

As far as I know this shift is a planned one time event.

From what I know of Hinduism it is an interesting religion. I do feel, however, that the strict caste system casts(unintentional pun) a shadow on it.

i note you didn't include an "uncertain" category, so i'm abstaining from your poll...sorry, STG

i was raised catholic by a good italian mother, but my dad was lutheran and never went to church except on holidays...i turned out more like him, except i skip the holidays too

if there's a god, i hope she's female...this world has had enough horror in the name of paternalistic dieties...i want a nurturing mother rather than a stern and cranky dad

but considering the state of this sorry old world, i have to wonder if maybe we're all on our own after all...what sort of god would have let this mess happen?

(pulling on my asbestos suit...not trying to be offensive folks...i'm just in a sad and thoughtful mood right now)

Either "other" or "agnostic" would qualify as "uncertain" depending on where i nthe spectrum of uncertainty you are, but however you wish to vote is your choice.

It is not the deity that has created the horror, but rather those who would act in his/her/it's name.

Also, I would venture that regardless of the gender of the deity, humans would still use religion as an excuse to kill/persecute other humans.

but considering the state of this sorry old world, i have to wonder if maybe we're all on our own after all...what sort of god would have let this mess happen?
One that allows free will? I would rather have free will and live in misery than be an automoton and live in paradise.

How can "other" be closer to anything?
