I enjoyed it. It is definitely in that "modern musical" vibe (Hamilton, Dear Even, etc.), and is a little clunky for that. But I judge a first draft of an unfinished concept album a lot differently than a polished product. It simplifies some story elements for a modern audience (Odysseus being very much a Classic Greek hero, they sand some of the edges off, shall we say), but for all of that, I enjoyed it. It probably helped that I just reread Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey , and her opening line ("Tell me of a complicated man") fits well into Rivera-Herrans's score, as does her whole "should be spoken aloud like Homer" translation.

I love that modern musical vibe. I just finished the first section and I’m obsessed already. This might become my newest hyper fixation.

I got hooked on this one little clip thats being used on TikTok, where Odysseus wakes up and meets calypso. I can’t get it out of my head so I figured I should check out the whole thing.

@Chloe_Harper i feel like this is something you might know about or be into?
 
So fed up with work right now. I'm sick of there being rules and no one follows them.

I just feel like he has a directory in his project file called "Hamilton guitars..."

I also really love what Rivera-Herrans is attempting. This is an epic story, pun intended, in every way it can be defined. Tackling that is a huge endeavor, and posting the work in process, so people can see what he is doing is fantastic. I appreciate and respect him on many levels.

Oh, I want to get into Epic! I know some of the songs, but have yet to dive in because I know it will be my obsession for a while. But now that we've brought it up... I might just have to go ahead and join you on this hyperfixation journey for a bit 🤪

It gets derided as Homer for Dummies because she cuts parts of the text, but they are missing the point of the project. She doesn't claim to be replacing Latimer's translation or anything. She limits her lines to the same number as Homer used in order to get the same spoken feel. She uses iambic pentameter for Western ears rather than dactylic hexameter, but the idea is the same : to sound and feel like the Greek audiences heard it originally. It is meant to be read aloud (and I admit, that is what I do when reading it alone ). I would love to find a performance of it by someone with a good voice.
