The destruction crew took down a thousand-foot remnant
of the Great Glaciers, chased away all of the coyotes
A boulder the size of a cottage rolled down the slope
A machine as big as my house set it into motion

I went to staten island. to buy myself a mandolin
and i saw the long white dress of love
on a storefront mannequin
Big boat chuggin' back with a belly full of cars...
all for something lacy
Some girl's going to see that dress
and crave that day like crazy

Now there are 29 skaters on Wolmann rink
Circling in singles and in pairs
In this vigorous anonymity
a blank face at the window stares
and stares and stares and stares
and the power of reason
and the flowers of deep feeling
Seem to serve me
only to deceive me
I thank America's National Public Radio for providing a gentle space
for sore loud concert ears -

The late John Prine, a revered singer-songwriter from the Chicago folk music scene,
won two posthumous Grammys on Sunday for his last recorded song,
“I Remember Everything,” a song about loss and memory.
The awards, in the American roots categories, were for best performance and
(with Pat McLaughlin) best song.
Me and Loretta, we don't talk much more She sits and stares
through the back door screen And all the news just repeats itself
Like some forgotten dream that we've both seen
Someday I'll go and call up Rudy We worked together at the factory
But what could I say if he asks "What's new?" "Nothing, what's with you?
Nothing much to do"
You know that old trees just grow stronger
And old rivers grow wilder every day
Old people just grow lonesome
Waiting for someone to say, "Hello in there,
hello"
So if you're walking down the street sometime
And spot some hollow ancient eyes
Please don't just pass 'em by and stare
As if you didn't care,
say, "Hello in there, hello"
