What Are You Listening To Now? 6.0

Dare - The Human League

One of my fave all-time sounds; 'Love Action' and 'Don't You Love Me Baby?' on the same album? Wow.

I enjoyed seeing Hackett at NEARfest many years ago.

No questioning his talent and his performances, but for some reason his solo albums don't "do it" for me.

A good friend of mine recently interviewed Hackett via Zoom. Let me know if you're interested - it's on YouTube.

Loved Hackett when he was in Genesis and then in GTR.

I agree his solo work is hit or miss, especially song by song.

Under a Mediterranean Sky is his fourth "classical" album, largely meaning he is mainly using nylon strings. I like this one a lot. His talent comes through well.

I have watched a lot of interviews but would love to see it in case I missed it.

Thanks

Green Carnation : Leaves of Yesteryear

Their "Light of Day, Day of Darkness" was one of my favorites for many years. (One song, 60 minutes).

So far, this one seems to be of a similar quality - but it's my first listen.

Romantic Warrior - Return to Forever

I was delving through hubby's jazz collection of trad, big-band, fusion, and be-bop (and some that have become pop standards, and ageless classics like Jimmy Lunceford's 'Bug's Parade') and in the past I found some gems, like Chick Corea's 'Delphi II' piano variations, and John McLaughlin, Al DiMeola, and Paco de Lucia's 'Friday Night In San Francisco', which is an absolute tour de force of virtuoso playing, and to find RTF's 'Romantic Warrior', with both Chick Corea and Al Di Meola writing and playing, if you like fusion jazz it doesn't get any better than this. I'd never heard of RTF before, playing this caught me entirely on the hop, I'm keeping this close at hand, it's definitely not the kind of album you listen to once.

Orgy- Blue Monday. Korn- Falling Away. Misfits-One last caress. And Offspring- Far away. Listening to the music my character likes. Weird but it helps me with dialog exchanges.

Effie Agrafioti and Giorgos Kontrafouris: Four by Four
Challenging work for two pianos, written by Dave Brubeck.

Brasil Outra Vez - Herbie Mann

Another of the fusion-jazz gems I dug up from hubby's mine of forgotten and obscure artistes, beautiful improv jazz flute, and funky Samba rhythms, great to dance to, or to just lounge around with, Mai-Tai in hand, and imagine I'm lying on the Copacabana Beach.

A random Genesis playlist. Which mostly had "Invisible Touch" and "We Can't Dance" songs in it. I need to track down the album with the Stiltskin guy on vocals. "Calling all Stations", the only song off that album in that playlist, sounded completely different and very fresh. I want more of that style.

I like their early- to mid output quite a lot. Not so sure about their "We're like Korn now, only with female vocals" current era. Seems very forced.

I only know their earlier output, and saw them live about 10 or 15 years ago, opening for Evergrey. I think I still have a guitar pick that the lead guitarist threw into the audience (I don't know his name - he was playing a Gibson Flying V).

From your comments, I'm probably better off not exploring their more recent catalog.

I noticed a recent Lickerish Quartet interview that caught my attention. Love the new EP and their first a lot.
