Right now, she is hunting HIM....and he has traps everywhere (think Supernatural for available abilities and tools/weaponry)

Dahmia has managed to avoid two rather nasty traps on her way to Texas...but there is a third that could potentially GET her...(and I want it to clip her, even if it doesn't KEEP her)

The problem is...how do I make that sound probable after her narrow escapes from the first two???

Actually, the situation you are describing is pretty classic. You've set up a pattern (two traps that she avoids), and then break it with the third (it clips her). You could easily make it her getting over-confident, and then quickly learning her lesson.
