What are the 'hidden' taboos?

Hiya all, as a writer with some ideas in stock. I have a question:

What can I write about? Are there any unseen no-no's that I should tread lightly around when choosing themes for my stories? I'm not asking about obvious things, like children, zoophilia, or Margret Thatcher. Extreme and illegal stuff like rape or even murder seems to offend noone.

But other things might. For instance, I wouln't ever set a happy orgy session in a concentration camp or write a Mother Teresa gang-bang. That's just tasteless.

What I'm particulaty thinking about are beliveable stories involving pepole with different conditions, accurately described. Mental illness, manic depession, PTD... Also pepole with physical disabilities.

I wouldn't go and make fun of and disrespect anyone here, but explore how differences like that might make for an interresting erotic scenario.

Setups that I have thought about includes:

* An erotic one-on-one between a guy and a girl, where one of them is deaf or blind.

* A rape told from the victim's perspective, a woman who have recently lost her sight.

* Different kinds of relationships/sex with a partner with multiple personalities.

Could themes like those be considered tasteless, or should I go for it?

Go for it. The believability of you story will be determined on how well you suspend certain portions of our reality and replace it with your own version.

The fact that one of the characters in handicapped or that the story deals with violence, rape or other issues (not beastiality or children, of course) has no bearing the quality or acceptance of your story.

There is and always will be some segment of readers on Lit who will be offended by whatever you write. But ignore them and forge ahead.

At one point I wrote an erotica story involving a woman with abinism (an albino). The story isn't on this site, or with this moniker, but its out there. Anyway, in doing a little research on the subject, I discovered a few things I never knew about the condition that otherwise would have spoiled the reality of the story. For instance, it is largely a myth that albinos have red eyes. Most of the time, they would appear to be clear blue. They also have problems with long distance vision. There are a few other details too, but the point here is that the reality proved much more interesting than my preconceptions, and also managed to improve the story by being more true to life. I don't feel I've done any disservice by portraying an albino as a subject in an erotic story -but I would have done wrong if I perpetuated the old stereotypes. And I think that pretty much nails it; the only real genuine taboo to be avoided is ignorace.

Ice -- go for it, if that's what you feel like writing. If you try to worry about not offending anyone, you'll just hobble yourself. Jenny's right; no matter what's in the story, there's bound to be someone out there who'll take exception. I've known a few authors hereabouts who've been lambasted for just including contraception in their tales. Just goes to show.

I feel that as long as the writer is involved and committed to the story, the majority of readers should respond to that because that's the way good stories happen.

Personally, I think your ideas present an interesting challenge, trying to write from the perspective of a character who lacks one of the five senses or simply does not perceive the world as most others do.

I've got plenty of research on deafness already for a whole different reason, so i think I'll try that angle first. I've got the basic outline ready, so it probably won't take all that long.

Thanks all for the input!

OK

Write it, post it, and risk being damned, if it's too extreme laurel will reject it before it gets on the board. Nothing lost there.

You will no doubt get some adverse feedback, even death threats, but hell they don't know where you live.

If its seen as going too far out it will go in the same section as the one where he liked to see his bird vomit.
I never read it I was told about it but its in the extreme other section theres like necrophila (spell check) ones there as well.at the end of the day theres a massive population of ppl with disabilities so why not include stories about them we seem to have pretty much everything else!

Hello Kitz darling, nice to see you over here, well said love, why should the disabled be left out of erotic stories, we, (wifey and I), know a girl in a wheelchair as the result of a car accident a few years back, she goes like a whore once you get her out of that chair, it's only her legs that are knackered. Her twat's in fine shape. So are her tits with all the exercise her top half gets wheeling herself about.:D

She hates and detests being treated like a cripple as she puts it.

"I'm fucking normal, just a bit shorter than you these days", is her favourite retort to the PC brigade who try to tell her she's something special to be paraded about and treated like glass in order to make a point.

I know a few “disabled” ppl and they hate it too many ppl say ohh u mustn’t say that to them ohhh u mustn’t treat them like that. Like they r truly brain dead and made of glass they think and feel and do the same things some a little slower some a different way but its all fantasy anywa so why not!!
There all sorts of weird stuff on the story section aliens ghosts loads of stuff at least impaired ppl r real!
Theres prono of it why not stories(never seen one myself but a few bouncers I knew used to try ansd gross each other out and they had some)

Ice-man,

I did a quick keyword search and came up the 79 stories that either had "blind" in their title or listed in their keywords. My guess is over half of them had something to do with being sightless.

When I ran "deaf" only five stories came up, but they all seemed to revolve around some type of hearing impariment. For what it's worth, I have a story in the incest category called "Sweet Dreams, Cousin" about a blind soldier home from Vietnam and his cousin.

I think it's a fine idea. I have a friend who lost a leg in a car accident. I wrote her a story about a woman in the same situation, just to try and cheer her up. It worked, she loved it and appreciated it. You will of course get some bad votes and feedback, but you would get the same with anything you write.

Welllll actually I had a character die in one - so there is the first half of a story on Lit and not the second.
Still debating if I wanna do a re-write - that character was SUPPOSED to die. It's part of the plotline.

Is it not on lit bc it was rejected due to content, or did you just not attempt to post? If seems like if it's not 'snuff' Lit wouldn't hold it against you if it's important to the story. (Just a guess, but I would think it would be worth a try.)

I have a roommate that is albino

shalona (Lit user name) has very platinum hair, her eyes are very lite blue, frosted blue as we call them, her skin gives her a spectral appearance and believe me, she has given many a guest a fright late at night and last halloween won first place as a ghost even though she wasn't in costume.

for her own description

Shalona's Description

Shalona, 20 Albino woman, white hair, colorless eyes, 5'11" 150 , gold cross tatoo dated January 1, 1995. Silver collar, Ruby implant, is soft spoken and hardly disobediant.

Well that is the light description of me.... now full the full effect.
As it shows I am very tall almost as tall as our Master.
My white hair hangs to my ass, just below the cheeks and it is very silky to the touch, the closest comparision is corn silk, ver faded white. My porcelian skin shows how albino I am. China doll white. I have a heart shapped face that is graces with a small dimple on the left side just above the smile lines of my small lips. My lips are the litest hint of pink as are the areolas on my ivory breasts. My eyes are almost colorless as the faint blue or frosted ice as it was once said about me is slowly fading to clear. I have a golden cross tatoo just above the valley of my 40C breasts and dated January 1, 1995 in burgandy. Yes, I came into his possession as a young child. I look very frail in the first sight and have been mistaken for a ghost walking in any white outfit. I have a very small waist 28 and I still have the ability to contort myself in a ball. I have a Ruby birthstone implanted in my bellybutton which I got on my birthday July 4th. Then even out to my 35 hips. I have lavendar roses that grace my right leg, but that is so light that very few can still see them.. My pussy is has a few curls of white corn silk but hardly noticeable. I have no leg hairs or armpit hairs. That is a blessing in disguise. I have the tiniest feet though I wear a size 3 in shoes when I wear them. I mostly go bare footed. I have been told a whisper is louder then my voice and when I do speak it is melodic. I love to sing and sometimes I have a child-like tone. My fingers are long too, I learned to play the piano at 7 and was considered a prodigy for years until my family went into a debt. I don't wear jewelry except my stone, collar, and the ring that I got for christmas.

disability-related stories

I don't recommend precensoring a story revolving around physical disabilities. People have them, and remain sexual beings. Why not write about them?

I, personally, have a badly stalled and already horribly overlong story somewhere on my Palm Pilot, starring five mute girls -- four with physical damage to their vocal chords, and a fifth who can no longer speak because of minor brain damage. Messed up? Well, it could be, except that I got very attached to my characters, and hadn't from the start seen it in terms of comedy. It's really more about isolation and friendship, using the disability as a catalyst and a lense.

The fun of this site is that we can all, with few exceptions, be honest about our fantasies, no matter how odd. Go for it-

deaf and blind

"* An erotic one-on-one between a guy and a girl, where one of them is deaf or blind"

I'm deaf and have always had a hearing boyfriend/lover/one night stand. Nothing tasteless about it. In fact, right now, I am ghostwriting a film script for a director friend of mine about my experiences. Personally, I would love to read one.
