THE HUCOW BREEDING FARM

Could the point, I wonder, possibly be that your "gamification", likewise, did not exist until the nerds got hold of it?

That these neoligisms exist in dictionaries proves nothing except to underline the modern tendency to wish desperately, above all, to be seen as keeping up with the latest idiocies and fads...

... especially if it might mean a competitor dictionary somehow gaining a financial edge.

One can almost see the frothing at the mouth.

In my younger days society was made of sterner stuff with people having at least a basic understanding of the true value of things, e.g. the value of retaining a collective acceptance of the meanings of words.... rather than an obsession with and pursuit of price.

I shall leave you to your self-geekificationing, a word which, if I repeat it often enough on soshul meeja, is all but guaranteed to make it through to the illustrious and sanctifying pages of commercial dictionaries, don't you think..?

Great and thoroughly hilarious put down!

Yes, I too will leave them to the "violent offenSes" they delight in inflicting on the English language in their pursuit of appearing oh-so-"cool" to their peers.

why are you so concerned about endings
Stephen King says he never knows how his stories will end until he has followed the thread of the situation that made him start writing in the first place. I agree with that. It’s a total letdown if I know from the very beginning how a story will end. And did Tolkien even think about the Ring when he first wrote about hobbits? In The Hobbit, it was just a simple magic trinket for invisibility — only later did he reimagine it as the One Ring at the heart of The Lord of the Rings.

Have just wriiten a short in which a farm and hucows both happen to figure... although not really a "hucow farm". Honestly have neither the time nor the "stamina" for the kind of War and Peace epic implied by the OP... and I don't think the subject matter actually justifies it. Just my humble opinion.

Looking forward to reading it 👍
