Well the title says it all really.

A number of times now I've clicked on recent activity and found the message "Comment removed by administrator"

I'd just like to know what the criteria are for this to happen.

It might or usually is reported by another reader/user for violating commenting rules.

All anyone other than Laurel could do was speculate. You could PM the question to her.

Rules? Meh, just unwritten ones. They may be "common sense", but that's something that is different for everyone, so only the site admins determine what to remove themselves. They might actually let some slip through their filters so you can decide whether to leave them up on not.

From my understanding, it works kinda like this:

1. If the comment is directly related to the story, then it almost always stays.

2. If the comment is calling people names, giving death threats, is overly rude, there's a decent chance it will be deleted quickly.

I've had the comments left in place when they said "this story is stupid", but had the "you are such an idiot you should do the world a favor and kill yourself" ones removed before I could get to it. The ones that say "you screwed up 'x' part of the story" are fine, but "only an assface would like this" isn't OK.

The Web site started deleting comments itself only in the recent year. No announcement was made on what would be deleted and why. If you want to know this, you'll have to try to get the information out of Laurel directly.

I think it's a pretty safe bet Laurel automatically removes any comments that go into explicit details of the commenter losing their virginity at fourteen and fifteen years old.

I've seen comments that were more intense and detailed than the story itself.

Some of it is advertising spam with offsite links.

If you have notification of comments on your recent activity you can sometimes see comments that have been deleted by admin. A couple of mine have been spam.

I saw the last one before it was deleted. There was no spam or reference to other sites. It was critical and all in capitals. It referred to the story which the anonymous commenter clearly didn't like. If I thought it was offensive to people or not related to the story, I would have deleted it myself. Now it looks as if I can't take criticism.

I had a complaint comment from anonymous that I had deleted his earlier comment. I hadn't even seen it before it had been deleted by admin.

I've just checked. 12 deleted in 30 days. I must have a lot of objectionable readers.

It could've been a threat, spam or someone's personal info. All of these correspond to the rules we have here in the forums.

I don't think the admins will remove "rude" comments. That just doesn't make any sense.

From what I've observed, a lot of this is a result of the ongoing war between the camps in Loving Wives. Somebody started reporting the other camp's comments, then that camp went tit-for-tat.

I suspect that some of it may be people bypassing the block on making more than one anonymous comment as well.

I've seen a few old comments disappear. My thinking is some of it is the whole of an anonymous commenters file of comments were deleted wholesale. If you really want to know the answer to this question, PM Laurel and ask.

Wow, that implies some kind of organized conspiracy among Anon. It's scary to imagine what might happen when the masses converge. It will be the French Revolution all over again. Who will be the first on the guillotine?

With anonymous, of course, it could just be one real person in either side.

Don't care that much LOL

I've just seen people talking about it, and took note of things related to it while on the site. Odds are that you're correct that someone(s) getting blackballed is a part of it.

Anon wars... Lol, that's too funny. :D
