I was scrolling through a sex toy website the other day and I came across penis pumps, and they were advertised to be able to enlarge my erection for a temporary period of time. I'm just wondering whether it's true, and whether its potentially dangerous, or if it can cause your penis to be permanently enlarged or something. Is it actually effective?

My partner has on occasion used a penis pump before sex. The myth is that if used regularly, it will stimulate larger erections temporarily, but I couldn't tell you if that's true or not.

PWilton has posted lots of info about a penis pump and stated that he has personal experience using one. You might look for some of his older posts (maybe June 2019) or PM him. I believe he did state that there might be some unwanted side effects if one wasn't careful about the amount of time with the rings on the penis.

I have one I used to use when I was having some erectile problems. A good quality one will be safe. There’s a choice of end gaskets to fit your size. They're real. A bit risky to use (like many sex toys) and not super effective, but they do the job for some people. That job being enabling an erection, not enlarging the penis permanently. It isn't possible to enlarge the penis permanently without some real awkward surgery. Alas.

I have had some health issues, and with them, I developed ED. A penis pump will not increase your size or length permanently, but it will increase your girth and size enough to put on a cock ring (i use my wife's hair ties) to keep you erect and a bit larger during sex.
