When I went into work on Saturday I got to meet the 43 year old sister of one of my patients. This sister is a bit edge with her shaved head and dancers body concealed beneath loose clothing. (B.D.U. pants and sized large mens T-Shirts.) She teaches dance and has a couple of degrees in arts. (The rumor among the staff is that she is Les. about which I could have cared less.)

That afternoon the patient has a reaction to a medication she is being given and codes. I'm the first one in the room and I call the code even as I start C.P.R. Long story short she is revived and transported to the I.C.U.

The patient was released from the I.C.U. this morning and ended up on my wifes unit. This afternoon the patients sister showed up on my unit with my wife looking for me. When they tracked me down the sister walked up to me in the hall and gives me this hug and a not so sisterly kiss before thanking me for being there to help her sister. (I can now attest to the fact that she truly does have a hard body under those loose clothes. Yowza) She the tells me they had both informed the hospital of their wish that when the patient is moved from my wifes unit back to mine they want her to be under my care again.

Now the funny thing is how the other staff on my unit reacted. To say they were shocked by her hugging and kissing me in the hallway would be an understatement. Not least because this was done in front of my wife. You should have heard the comments that floated around the unit after that.

I had a hard time not laughing about it.

Glad she was standing there with you... imagine the talk had she not been. (shaking head)
