In my park we have covered parking areas. These are sideless roofs large enough to cover the cars for six units. (Six cars wide and two cars deep.) In other words it's a good sized structure.
Last year I put the gutters back up on it, they were hanging loose and broken. At the time I commented to the park management that the roof of the structure needed to be cleared of debris. Nothing was done even though I reminded the Park Manager several times. The conditions on the roof were getting worse, from the sides I could see things growing up there and in the gutter. From underneath you could see areas where the metal roof panels were bulging away from the ribs.
This morning I finally got tired of the whole situation. I dug out everything I would need and climbed up onto the roof. When I did I was stunned by what I found. The ribs on this roof are like those on my trailer. They are three inches tall. The Debris on the roof hid the ribs, you couldn't see them. Time to get to work.
I had to use a spade to scrape the debris and loam loose of the roof panels then scoop it into bags. (I was smart, I dragged my trash can up with me so I didn't have to hold the bags open.) The work went slowly because I was using plywood panels to stand on and spread my weight. This meant every time I moved I had to move a panel. (I had to keep the trash can on it's own panel because of the weight.) By the time I filled a bag it was almost too heavy for me to lift.
We're talking over four inches of Leaves, Branches, Ducks and Duck Eggs, Loam, (from decomposing leaves and such,) Cans and Bottles and other assorted trash that had been tossed up there. In and among all of this was a nice growth of grass and several trees over two feet tall.
By the time I was done I had filled twenty some bags and had people complaining to the front office. My neighbors were complaining because they were worried I might mess up their nice clean walkways. The people who use the next Car Port down the road were complaining because I refused to clean theirs.
Ahh well, it was a lot of work but it's cleaned off now. Hopefully the next time it needs cleaning someone else will do it, but I doubt it.
