What’s your secret influences?

My influences are a mix of memories of what happened in my life and what I wished happened in my life. I love story-telling, I love building and creating from nothing, and I like to think of myself as a wizard or necromancer who pulls people, emotions, and reactions from dust.

Music. I always turn to music. Every piece has its own backstory, and it helps me get in the right mood. I listen to melodic techno or Bob Seger for sensuality, soft piano for lyricism, metal or Goa trance for energy and aggression, and Bruckner for the divine.
To be fair, when I’m writing I can’t listen to songs, only music, and my playlist reflects that with Bach, Mozart, Horner, Barry, Kamen and Williams all massively making the cut for a 4 hour playlist. I wouldn’t say it’s an influence, just a tool to help me keep going.

One of the influences for ALL THE DEVILS ARE HERE (and it’s a weird one) was the relationship dynamic between Vanessa and Andy. This was actually modelled on the relationship between Rick Blaine and Captain Renault of all things…but with lots of sex on top.

Who?

Isn't Captain Renault the chief inspector who eventually went crazy in the Pink Panther movies?

😂🤣😆

No. That was Chief Inspector Dreyfuss played by the brilliant Herbert Lom (a case of perfect casting I feel) whereas Renault was played by Claude Rains.

Yes, Williams. From the melodic Let Me Entertain You, all the way through to the uplifting tones of Angels.
