If you ran a political party, what 5 issues would you run on? Share 5 campaign promises that will get your party elected and help move America forward.

I think this is a potentially interesting thought experiment. Limit yourself to legislative issues, please. “Dems are communists” and “anyone but Trump” aren’t in the spirit of the exercise.

My 5 are issues that I think have majority support nationwide, including a couple that could improve our elections (and therefore government) far into the future.

“Give us control of Congress and the Presidency, and we promise to …”

1. Codify Roe.
2. Codify protection for access to contraception.
3. Pass the bipartisan border control bill.
4. Reform voting with open primaries and ranked choice elections (the Alaska system).
5. Outlaw gerrymandering in any form and specify a nonpartisan system for drawing voting district boundaries.

Obviously there are no right answers. Rather than attacking someone else’s list, share a list that’s better.

Unfortunately, as we have recently seen, this SCOTUS endorses republican gerrymandering.

The first three are my only big ticket items. The rest are suggestions that aren't top priority

1. Address insolvent SS and Medicare issues.(Or make changes in that direction)
2. Codify roe federally
3. Fix asylum system (or make changes in that direction)
4. Address problems with Presidential turnover in regards to treaties and long term deals - make it more difficult to "turn on a dime" leading to instability and credibility issues with allies/enemies
5. Push for UN changes, specifically security council superiority - having the same parties able to negate any UN policies without questions needs to be changed
6. Enact domestic pandemic preparedness protocols with specific reviews of the COVID actions taken

Share your list!
Rather than come up with a precise list, I will summarize my political philosophy.

Generally speaking, I agree with liberals on the economy because I perceive of little moral significance in the distribution of wealth and income. I agree with liberals that human caused global warming is an existential problem, so I favor more environmental regulations.

Nevertheless, I am pessimistic about human nature and human potential. Even so, to the extent that I am a conservative, my conservatism is without concern for the well being of rich people.

You could say that I am the opposite of a libertarian.

I'll add two more:
1. I am against any additional SCOTUS changes. I.e. against packing the court. I don't see the need.
2. I would change filibusters to require the minority party to have to be on the floor during the filibuster. If your issue is important enough, you should have to physically be there

There is probably very broad opposition to the filibuster among voters (those that even know what it is).

I don't oppose the fillibuster. I oppose it's current ruleset as it makes it too easy for an opposition to block legislation and nominations.

I think many people would prefer to completely change the Senate in ways that would negate it's original purpose. I don't agree with those fundamental changes in many cases.

I think that situational rules should exist that put priority on filling major government positions....the ability for a minority to block nominations deferring to "acting" positions of the Executive should not be tolerated.

  1. Supreme Court Amendment
    1. Code of Conduct dictated by Congress
    2. 18 year term limits
    3. 1 seat per judicial district (currently 13)
    4. Add 1 Supreme Court seat each 4 years until (3) above is met.
  2. Active fillibuster (On the floor or else)
  3. Right to Privacy, including but not limited to
    1. Right to abortion without restriction prior to 22 weeks
    2. Limited right to abortion after 23 weeks
    3. Right to contraception
    4. Right to interracial marriage
    5. Right for two consenting non-related adults to do whatever they want in a bedroom
  4. Return to Obama-era early warning for diseases.
  5. Federal bounty of one million dollars for each of Donald Trump's fingers (doubled if videotaped). Expires 2030.

Which one do you disagree with and why

This is a thread for the issues you’d run on to win an election. BabyBoomer provided an example of legitimate conservative issues. In contrast, you provided 9 ways to lash out at things you don’t like. Your loony ideas would be suicidal for any candidate, so I hope Trump gives them a try. 😆

So I just read what he wrote.
It's not only different than anything I said

None but one of yours are right or achievable.
