What IS he building in there ? Inspired by a Tom Waits piece, I thought I would dedicate a thread to anyone who loves tinkering in their garage, basement, or backyard. Rebuilding a hot rod, experimenting with nuclear fision, or just making your own sex toys and bondage gear, please share a story about your creations, and maybe post a pic or two.

And just What, you may ask, does this have to do with Literature or Erotica ? Well, what really is more sexy than a sweaty, greasy guy or gal that’s good with their hands ?

Rudder Modification

"And just what are you building right now?" you ask, knowingly.

Well, unfortunately, the rudder on my sailboat is not balanced around it's pivotal axis; the original design flaw means that it takes a lot of force to push against the water to steer the boat. So I'm adding about 15% surface area before the pivot shaft. That oughtta do it !

My perfect and awesome boyfriend is designing a brick pizza oven for my back yard. He intends to build it this summer. In preparation, I'm relocating my raised herb garden to another part of the yard this spring, which should give him a 10x10 space to build the oven. I'm also thinking about building a structure to cover my back patio so that we can dine al fresco and use the pizza oven even through the torrential downpour months (Oct-May). I that the weather finally is turning decent (read: the downpour has slowed to every other day) so I can get into the yard and tinker about. I'm planting spring peas this weekend. Fuck yes.

The Tom Waits link kind of threw me off, however I get the OPs point. A person gets a particular idea or specific project in mind, and that person sets out to complete, rebuild, create, or add to something only they see in their mind's eye. The point being that person did so with their own idea and their own 2 hands.
