We've been Outed?

LOL!!!

VM that is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Tell Selena to get him to review eXcessica!:D

I disagree with some of his positions, but I greatly enjoy the article in general. In order for us to leave those shadowy back corners, we need to be talked about in "mainstream circles"...

I greatly look forward to a day when the latest Alessia Brio or Wendy Stone or Selena Kitt is shelved with the rest of the "New Arrivals" at the front of Borders.

Well, B&N has a section that's sex and romance. I'm not sure if they file or shelve any of our type of stories or novels in those areas. I do know that tucked away in a four foot section is the gay/lesbian section. Novels of an erotic or inspirational nature sit there. I would be pleased to see a step in filing some of those stories into the mainstream sections. But, I guess if someone just wants to go in and find some GLBT material, a seperate section is just a way to make it easier. Like finding the Atlas or Johnathan Kellerman. So, if such stores like B&N were to stock erotic literature, I think it would just have it's own little shelving section. Maybe not so much front window.

And Mario Vacchi is on the Fantasy/Science Fiction shelves . . .

Welcome back, Rika. Good to see you posting.

B & N and Borders both shelve erotica in it's own section. Normally near the self help books... also, you will find erotic romance and sometimes erotica from a romance publisher in the Romance section...

I'm in their catalog although I have yet to find one of my books shelved there. I have found friends of mine on the shelves.

What I seek is for a new release by an erotic author they already stock to be treated in the same manner as a new crime novel or thriller or biography.

Two things are needed for that... and they are interdependent. Increased sales and mainstream public acceptance of the genre. They will feed each other...

Can it happen? Yes. Will it happen? Not any time soon... but I do like any motion I see in that direction. :D

I have seen such classics of erotica as 'Fanny Hill', 'Tropic of Cancer' and 'The Story of O' as paperbacks on independent bookstore shelves. Not to mention oodles of 'How-To' sex manuals.

Progress is being made.

Can 'Trailer Park Sluts' be far behind? :D

I have four books tucked away that are very clearly erotic fiction (and some which wouldn't be postable here on Lit, BTW) that I found in the "Romance" section of the local Waldenbooks. They also carry archived collections of Penthouse letters and other works of erotic fiction. So I suppose it just depends on where you shop at.

My local Hastings has a section of erotic fiction with quite a few offerings. Amazing for this area of the "bible belt".

There's a shelf devoted to Ellora's Cave and a few other publishers, too, at my local bookstore.

One writer I met on MySpace does a brisk trade in werewolf porn.

:D Is this our own Rob out glad handing? :D

Good for him!:rose:

I'd love to read that first book of his. I wonder if the rights have reverted-- if he could sell it to an e-publisher?

I think that some of us may have been barking up the wrong tree. All right, everyone, who are the "porn" publishers we should be talking to, the ones selling left and right on Amazon? I don't need bookstore exposure if I can make a few shekels here and there on Amazon . . .
