Hi y'all,

Perdita's coming to the UK over the New Year.

A few of us decided it would be nice to meet up in-the-flesh.

The venue is going to be Wetherspoons in Wakefield.

Precise date (let alone the exact time) is to be decided, but my suggestion is Saturday, Jan 1.

Any takers?

If you are up for it, either post here, PM me, or email fifty5@postmark.net

Eff

Err, Eff? I'm working that day. I'll have been working the night before. Can we make it a few days later please?

AND!

Jan 3rd is out... barstaff do the night before.

I'm working a lot over Xmas and NY... I'll dig out my timetables.

I would but I appear to have lost my Xmas rota

AND... shit... I need to go to bed... beer overload

Sleep well love.

Let me know when you know... <g>

Sounds cool but I dunno about the practicalities of going so far just after christmas -EL the poor *L*

Travelling to be in West Yorkshire on Jan 1 would mean driving 250 odd miles including around the M25 through all the drunk drivers from the night before. The chance of arriving in one piece is much lower than any other day of the year.

I'd also be tired from celebrating New Year's Eve with the family.

If I disappointed my family - driving up the day before? What chance of finding a B&B open on 31st Dec?

Og

JL's B&B is taking customers, on the grounds NONE of us will be in that night... James is working, my sister will be at the parents and I'm working working working.

I can't find my xmas rotas *screams*

Sounds like hellish fun Eff and would love to meet you all, but like Oggie it's a time of year thing from this end of the country. I'm also tied up with family until at least Jan 5, we're actually in Devon for the new year celeb at wife's cousin's place.

I will make all effort to get up there for young *P's* visit though, and if not a big get together, I'm sure a pint in the local wouldn't go amiss, always did prefer Nothern beer, does Walkers still exist.

FYI, I'll be in W. Yorkshire from Dec. 30 through Jan. 10 (leave for home on the 11th). Perhaps the second week of the new year would work for some. We could meet in shifts :) .

excitedly, Perdita

p.s. in case anyone's up for more of me, I'll be in Venice from Dec. 24 to 29 :) .

I'd so love to do this, but I'm not sure right now how I could work it. It's a long journey, and with my kids and all, it might be tough to get away.

I'll see what I can do. Maybe I could share travelling with someone. ;)

Would be great to meet you, Perdita, and everyone else who plans to be there.

Lou :rose:

For those interested: Wakefield has a Travellodge, Travel Inn and Days Inn with reasonable rates.

Second week would probably be the best. I think I might have a day off in there somewhere.

LOL! The curse of being a manager...

Helen

First of January was never a contender for me, but later is a possibility. Wakefield's not that far from Newcastle.

Lou, just what I was thinking. I'd be happy to drive, much more fun when we get lost. And you know what, we could pick up Pops on the way through. Whaddya think?

P, it would be fantastic to meet you and the others in the UK contingent.

I think that would be a damn good idea! I'd have to square things my end, though.

Also, I'd badly want Lew to be there, too. I think it would be even more difficult for him, with work and all. I'll have a word anyway.

Ooh, I'm getting more excited by the minute. P. :)

I know exactly what you mean. I'm hoping to visit USA next May/June, and have already tentatively spoken to a few people about meeting up. It could be a blast. Both trips.

I'll leave it up to you to sort that out. I shouldn't have any problems with taking leave, I'll be off work until Monday 4th anyway, so I can easily take one or two days extra.

Of course the other option would be a train. I'll look into it. Maybe Ogg would be happier doing it by train, I'm sure there'd be a connecting spot where we could all meet up.

'getting all excited as well'

Imagining my calendar: Lou and Mat on Monday, Gauche on Tuesday (at least once alone, please), Ogg and JL on Wednesday, Alex and Gauche on Thursday, The Earl on Saturday and Sunday, Pops the next week (I can dream, can't I?). Ok, I've got some days left, people.

dreaming, Perdita :)

Hmmm, thinking about it, the Monday might work for me, cos it's a Bank Holiday. I know I'd have no worries about the kids.

There's still plenty of time, I'll see what I can do.

You'd have to ride a virgin Alex.

Train, that is.
Not willingly - rode one to Birmingham last year. Train was fine, organisation was chaos.
