It's a block away from a high school and a middle school. If the explosion had happened a few hours earlier, this would have been even worse. Still looks like it's going to be real bad.

Czech Stop is worth stopping in West for.

People are saying they felt it as far north as Forney (just a few miles from me).

Forney not to far from me also I was down at lake fork all day friend called me who lives out side of west he's been sending me pictures

oh bummer! That is my fav place to stop when heading north for my Czech goodies. :(
A source tells News 8 that a large swath of the small town with a population of 2,800 has been leveled. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed there were multiple injuries. Reports of so many injuries that troopers are loading them in their patrol cars and transporting them to the hospital

It's scary. I'm glad school was out, at least. And hope the apartment complex that got caught it isn't too bad off.

There's a old folks home that got hit so far 30 people from there gone to hospital
Dallas fire and rescue is there.

This is an interesting note:

Tommy Alford, who works in a convenience store about three miles from the plant, told CNN that several volunteer firefighters were at the store when they spotted smoke.

Alford said the firefighters headed toward the scene and then between five and 10 minutes later, he heard a massive explosion.

Sounds like this might have started as a fire that they couldn't contain before it reached the part of the plant that would blow up.

That's what it sounded like to me, too. All the reports I've seen said firefighters were already there in response to a fire call when it exploded. Given the nature of the plant, it's not surprising that a big fire would lead to an explosion.

That's what there saying was that the fire department was there for a fire when it blow up

They seem to be using the football field at the high school for triage. Nice to have a large area nearby that it's easy to light.

Is there a front coming through right now, with winds? That's not going to help. We're east of West (no pun intended), and I know it's supposed to be cooling off here tomorrow.

It's weird that this is all happening 2 days before the 20th anniversary of the last time there was a big famous fire near Waco.

:rose:

i looked but i can't remember the blast radius. fertilizer plants are so dangerous.

Holy fucking shit they just showed video of the actual explosion. I can't imagine anyone nearby having survived that.

The front's supposed to be bringing rain. Let's hope that mitigates the wind.
