fraternity or sorority?

There is such a sense of community here at Lit that it it made me wonder if any of you were ever in a fraternity or sorority in college? Which one?

I was actually too busy - but i was in Football and it is very similar to a frat - everyone hangs out drinks together and goes out to parties together - also the women were all over us just cause we played football - much like at a frat house - to which we often were invited to attend parties at - cause we usually brought all the women!!!

Couldn't join, went to one of the school's that Animal House was based on, got outlawed in '64.

First male on my father's side not to belong to one in 6 generations...wonder if there is a genetic predisposition

You forgot "Yes, but I loathed the superficiality of it all and happily dropped out."

You forgot 'other'

No I wasn't, and even if I had continued through school I would have never joined one.

Nope

I was more involved in the musician/artists set. So, we made fun of greek life and never once looked at how similar our "group" was.

One semester we did create our own fraternity. We called it SIN

Sexually Inactive Nymphomaniacs. We wrote by laws and had weekly meetings at the local pub wherein we became very intoxicated. Then, of course, we did our best to get laid and shared our tales at the next meeting.

Sounds really ridiculous now, but was alot of fun then. :)

No... I really had no interest - and no choice in undergrad - fraternities were banned in the state I went to school in at that time (mid - late 70's). But dorms were very different then - our dorm was practically a fraternity - they did this thing which was probably dumb from an "authority" point of view but great for us. They had dorms with "themes" - there was one for science majors and one for english majors - and... get this - the one I was in - was for Art and Music and Theatre majors...

Is that a hoot or what? Great idea, put all the long hair hippie creative types together in one dorm? But it ROCKED! *lol* I remember one night - must have been at least 30 people sitting in the hallway - every single one of us tripping... there were guitars... and pot... and... as the night went on someone (OK, it was me) got the idea that we should decorate... the art supplies came out and by the next morning there were paintings, drawings, poems completely covering the walls of the 2nd floor...
(one of my fellow cohorts is now a very well known actor... I'm the one responsible for turning him on to... all sorts of things... *LOL*)

By the time I got to grad school, in another state, there were frats - but I still had no interest in them, though my band played at more than a few frat parties...

Can someone tell me how I can adjust the poll to include "other"? It won't let me!

Mischka, hi!!! I didn't know you could drop out. I thought once you pledged you were theirs for life!!!

Sorry Barb... but I believe that's not possible at this point. Only options are to start another poll or live with it.

I bet that gets their twin-sets and pearls in a twist!

I am sure they put the PR machine in overdrive on the rare occasions that happens. That's almost as bad as someone rejecting the Homecoming crown!

No, the school I went to didn't have them. We did however, have theme specific dorms like the ones Dillinger described. I lived in the Wellness hall, no drinking or smoking in the dorm...you could come back with it in you as I did on more than one occasion. *grin*

I belonged to a proffesional fraternity....not quite the same as the social ones. We met a few times a semester, that was it. But we were all friends and hung out regularly.

My school was relatively small but at the same time overrun with greeks.......
You had to really suck to not get into one if you were so inclined since there was barely enough student population to support them.
