There was such a good discussion on Jade's thread about what happens when we die I thought I'd throw this out. A letter to the editor of the South Bend Tribune (ND University if you don't know) asks the following questions:

Were Adam and Eve ever married?

If so, by whom?

If not, were Cain and Abel illegimate?

Well, seeing as how they never existed I think it's a moot question.

But, if you're arguing theologically, their union was sanctioned by God. A religious wedding ceremony is just a ritual where two people ask God for sanction, which is granted through the Priest. The church has nothing to do with it -- they're merely a vessel for the Divine.

Adam and Eve didn't need a mouthpiece Priest, because they spoke directly to the big fellow. God created Eve for Adam to go forth and multiply. When he chased them out of the Garden he did not say, "Oh, and by the way, no fucking." In fact, he implied that their union should continue by cursing Eve with painful childbirth.

on this i agree with DCL except for the fact that i believe they did exist.

DCL i am intersted please share your origins theory, i want to see if you have the same theory i once followed

I'd rather not take over this thread with more creation/evolution rhetoric. Sonora should have a chance to hear replies to her question. But to be really brief -- The Big Bang followed by Quantumn Physics followed by The Expansion Model followed by Single-Celled Life followed by Evolution followed by the invention of Air Conditioning.

DCL you follow a diferent route than i followed instead of discussing it here could you take some time to write it up in an email to me?

toddf@farts.com

I don't think I could ever send an e-mail to anyone "@farts", but if you like I'll chime in on any new thread you wish to start, with this caveat -- I will not bore everyone with a comphrensive laundry list of why I've come to certain theological conclusions.

Now, back to Sonora, Adam, Eve and the whole marriage thing...

God made them for each other and sanctioned the "marriage" and Dixon...No comment? you haven't emailed back.

It's a very interesting point that you made. I do believe that there was an Adam and Eve, but whether they were married or not is not the real question. The real question is if Eve was really the first woman as the bible suggests. There have been records of another woman before Eve named Lilith but because she was a dominate female, she was striken from the biblical records so to speak. I don't think I could go to indepth in this subject but there are a lot of things that the bible does leave out that we just have to take for granted.

Oh yeah Eve, I remember something about Lilith from religion texts. Wasn't there something about female being referred to in the plural in Genesis 1 or something that indicated another woman? She's also explained more in apocraphic (sp?) literature, right? Please refresh my memory.
As for Adam and Eve, I've always imagined they had the ultimate hippie wedding. I mean dig it...the two of them standing there with their long haired naked selves before the Big Guy himself..maybe some exotic flowers in her hair..
My question is, did they have belly buttons?

Et tu, DCL?

Though forewarned against self-involvement, DCL, I cannot help but feel you walking on my grave.

If you have a message here -- as you must, given your repeated and gratuitous aspersions in this thread -- then consider it conveyed. Perhaps there is merit to what you say.

Still, I cannot help but be disappointed that even you felt the need to gibe in such fashion. Is this really the dynamic you hope to establish?

Gibe what? I'm "what"? Walking on your grave? What? I'm conveying what dynamic? Someone has "fore-warned" you? Huh? What? ???????

Felix, I seriously have zero idea what you're talking about.

As the Pope said to Jesus on Judgement Day, "Come again?"

The enjoining against self-absorption came from other people on different threads, but are you seriously telling me that the above was (intentionally or not) anything but a slam on me?

Perhaps I am still a bit bewildered by many of the angry comments I've received, but I think that I am the only person on the board to have been repeatedly (and abusively) indicted for this behavior lately. Am I wrong to see this in your comments?

For what it's worth, I can and do see legitimate reasons for any of those statements that having nothing to do with me or my earlier comments.

Taken as a whole, though, it seems a bit much to see only coincidence.

Hey Boobtoad, you seem really interested in these subjects. You want the real skinny on Adam, Eve and Lilith, go to the Erotic Novel section and read "Prey for Me." This should take you about ten minutes.

Then maybe we'll talk like you asked. I am, however, apprehensive when someone wants me for my brain. The next question always is, "Got any nekkid pics?"

DCL, go for it! If you have something to say, say it. It might bring up more discussion on the subject. I really don't have an opinion on this subject. I just heard a DJ talking about it on the radio this morning and thought that it might be interesting to see what some of you had to say. I'm just going to sit back and read on this one. I don't mind if it might take a different direction.

Not only were they married, but....

They got divorced. Eve got the apple and Adam got the pits.

I never thought he was self-absorbed but this post seems to argue against it. I mean; could DCL's first post be any more innocuous?
Tell me hun, do you ever wear aluminum hats?

"Am I wrong to see this in your comments?"
YES.

While I'm at it.
Every complaint against newbies is against bobtoad.
Every complaint against oldies is against Lasher.
Every complaint against art is against Creamylady.
Every complaint against magicians is about DCL.
Every complaint about complainers is about Siren.
Every complaint againt religion is about Deb.
Every complaint about meaningless posts is against me.
Every time a person leaves the board it's because of Laurel.

Anymore?

[QUO. I am, however, apprehensive when someone wants me for my brain. The next question always is, "Got any nekkid pics?" [/B][/QUOTE]

Heh Deborah, got any naked pictures?

It is entirely possible that I have become overly sensitized to this. If so, however, it is in the context of a wave of inexplicably venemous jabs and a number of what could only be considered left-handed compliments from various sources. Were the comments valid? Perhaps, and I am giving them my full consideration.

In other ways, Dixon has already given me his answer, and I am positively tickled to learn that I misinterpreted his comments. If an apology is warranted, I offer it now with all sincerity.

For all of that, though, I still see an implicit rebuke in his words. Is that an overreaction on my part, my guilty conscience jumping at shadows? It may be. Then again, perhaps he had more on his mind than he knew.

Either way, though, I am happy to have put this ugly critter to bed.

Completely. You were never in my thoughts. If I don't like someone, I say so. I was referring to my own numerous, long theological riffs.

Never: "Innocuous"? Not really going for that, and I'm too smart to be accused of thaat. You've shown a smarmy impatience for my beliefs and (well crafted) arguments. Sorry we don't share faith. Leave it there, okay?

Everyone else: THERE ARE NO NAKED PICTURES!

Everyone else: THERE ARE NO NAKED PICTURES

How come? What are you ashamed of?

Ahhhh.

Rarely has been being so wrong felt so good.

Thanks for not thinking of me.

You're too smart to be accused of making a harmless remark?
I'm not following you there, honestly.
As for my smarmy impatience there's really no way to reply to that without sounding smarmy - though I'll say that no, I am neither.

As for not sharing the same faith.. you haven't a clue as to what my beliefs are.. please do not presume to tell me what they are.
