Well they're at it again in work. They are again trying to marginalise the C.N.A.'s in the hospital.
This started a month ago when it was announced they were once more changing our titles.
When we started there several years ago our titles were C.N.A. (Certified Nurses Aide or Certified Nursing Assistant.) No one questioned this, everyone knew what it meant.
Then they changed it to Nursing Assistants. We complained about this as it signified that we didn't have to undergo training or licensing. The name stuck though. That year the R.N.'s received a $1.00 an hour raise while the Aides received a $.25 an hour raise.
Then they changed it to P.C.T. or Patient Care Technician. (Notice Nursing is no longer in the title.)
Recently the hospital announced that our titles were again being changed. Now we are to be called General Care Technicians. There is talk about another change which is to our classification. The rumble is that we are being reclassified as Unlicensed Ancilliary Staff. This means that we will no longer be in the Nursing Department but in the same department as Housekeeping and Linen Staff. (Who get paid more than we do.)
I suppose I should have seen this coming. Dietary Aides have been giving the Aides orders as have their supervisors. The same with the Housekeepers. On another note maybe this will mean rasies for the Aides.
