I got pulled over this morning. Wasn't speeding or anything, he ran my plates and notice I DON'T HAVE A LICENCE! It didn't go as bad as I had thought it would. He asked me why I was driving with out a licence and I started crying. Fully sincere mind you (I was scared half to death). And I blurted out my whole life story. My recient split from my husband and a few details there, the fact that I'm working at Mc Donald's (and the fact that I was late for said job) because no one else would hire me after relying solly on my husband for finacial support for 2 years, and I had no way to get to work other than to just drive myself. (I should say that I my shirt is missing the top 3 buttons and I don't usually put my safty pin in until I get to work, so I also am sitting there with my shirt open) I then informed him that I had my temps, but I've already failed my test 3 times. At this point he tried to calm me down a bit and then headed back to his cruser.

When he came back he handed me the ticket and told me he had to site me. I was still in tears and appologized to him and told him I understood he was just doing his job. For the next 20 minutes he gave me tips on how to talk to the judge, told me I should hurry and take my test again because they might just throw it out if I show up with my licence, and gave me tips on how to pass my test.

After my tears had stopped and I had calmed down a bit, he told me he would let me drive off, but only after making sure I had insurance. I thanked him for all the tips and then drove off to work. If I hadn't been so scared, I may have talked to him a bit more, he was hot. *giggles*

Well, now I have to get my ass crackin' and get my licence! What a way to start a morning!

Go take your test in Mississippi. Mine was four right turns and a stop at a four way stop. All within the comfy confines of the mall parking lot. That's it.

*HUGS*

The US driving test (no matter where you take it) could be passed by a blind man with epilepsy.

You'll do fine, I am sure.

If you ever get nervous, just think of this: Millions of people in this country have driving licenses. Most of them are dumber than you. They passed, so it can't be that tough.

Thanks guys.

But you know it's not the driving that gets me. It's that damn manerveralbility. They call it a perking test, but I can park just fine. When it comes to that part of the test though I hit a cone every time. This last time my mirror knocked it over! That pissed me off! My mirror just tapped the cone and I failed because of it!

Ye gods!!

Try taking a test over here. Discounting the fact you have to pass a written test before you can even ENTER for your practical.

Then its a full half hour driving, covering every manoeuvre you would possibly have to use........reverse/parallel parking on the road between real cars, not bollards; reversing round a corner; hill starts (don't even think about rolling back, instant fail), what used to be called a three-point turn, but is now described as 'turning the car around using the forward and reverse gears'. Right hand turns (equivalent to your left, across the traffic), major junctions, roundabouts, emergency stop, and then the final parking correctly back at the test centre. THEN another 5 or 10 minutes of questions. Pretty Nerve Racking.

I tried passing mine at age 18......I failed dismally four times and gave up (couldn't afford any more lessons). Took lessons again at the age of 42, and passed first time. Changed my life.

I failed my written test, by one question--but the lady grading it just asked if I knew something about babies and child-seats or something and she marked one of them right afterward so I passed.

And I'll agree, Mississippi's driving test was no more complicated than go around the block once.

I feel for you mlady. That must have been a scary experience. It's bad enough being pulled over, least of all when you know you're doing something wrong! Go for your driving test - when you look at some of the morons out there who are allowed to get behind the wheel of a car, you'll realise that it really is just a piece of piss. :rose:

Thanks

You know it kills me how many people out there, that I know, brag about how many times they've been pulled over and yet this is my first time in the 3 years I've been driving on my own, and I can't get my licence but they still have theirs!

Well, chcek your citation. Should have his name or badge number somewhere on it. ;)

Sorry, indeed, both for the pull and for the unpleasant circumstances surrounding it. Best of luck working out of McD's and into something you'll enjoy more. But if you're going to keep doing the shift in a shirt missing the top three buttons, I think they have openings at the one down the street from me ...

;)

You know, I asked them to get me a new shirt and they said that they ordered one for me 3 weeks ago. Every one else has gotten their's but I still haven't gotten mine. I wonder if there's a reason for that.

First of all, I am Sorry. I feel I owe you that.:rose:

Don't feel too bad, in alaska permits last 2 years and i drove with mine the whole time I was there until my neighbors paid for my license b/c my husband was getting deployed and I had just had my daughter.

I rear ended a guy on the three inch thick ice adn was only using my permit. Thank god he was someone I knew adn he didn't call the police.

Good luck on your next test.

Okay, now I'm cutting it really close. I called the testing station and the next available slot they had was for Aug 2. My court date is Aug 3!

I could really use any happy vibes and prayers anyone has just laying around.

You can do it mlady. No sweat. I'll be thinking happy thoughts for you.

Mlady,

If you relax the tests aren't that bad. You already know how to do it. The problem is being watched over and graded on what you're doing. This adds to the stress and makes you screw it up.

American driving tests are a lot easier than the European ones. I know, I've taken the German as well as the English Tests. They were extremely comprehensive and more than a little nerve wracking. (In both cases I thought too comprehensive and I wondered at some of the drivers who passed.) Just relax and think of the tester as a friend you're driving around, you'll do fine.

Cat

I failed the driving test in Italy miserably. The people there drive like it's a Grand Prix challenge. (The next time I drove through Italy I was driving a five ton with a Rome Plow in the front, everyone got the hell out of my way.)

In England the tests have become more difficult recently. People who passed 10 years or so ago were tested to a lower standard.

However we do have one of the lowest road casualty rates in Europe. Most people are still polite on the road in the UK (excluding London where everyone drives aggressively).

I'm sure Mlady can pass. All she needs is confidence in her abilities. We're confident that she will succeed.

Thanks guys.

Tomarrow I'm going to practice that stupid parking part until I'm sure I have it. Hopefully that will give me the confidence I need to pass the test. Then I'll have a whole 20 hours to worry about what's going to happen in court.

Excellent plan! Bring some buckets or something to play cones for you. :)

Best of luck. I know you'll do well.

Okay, in about 10 minutes here I leave to take my test. I'm feeling 75% confident and 25% nervous. But nothing left but to do it I guess.
