Well I reckon I asked for it. I've been complaining and complaining about the lack of rain here in West Palm Beach and Mother Nature has decided t give me a break. They are now forecasting upwards of 15-20 inches by the end of Saturday thanks to Katrina.

Hey it should be interesting. They are forecasting for Katrina to come inland south of me around Fort Lauderdale so I should be dealing with some high winds and heavy rains for the next few days. The house I'm living in should hold up well, and my wife and I should be more than comfortable during this storm. (Yes we're ready. We don't have shutters for the place, we haven't been here long enough to get those ready, but we do have plenty of food, water, as well as fuel for the car and generator. Oh and I have several cases of beer stashed in the back room along with plenty of Cigars.)

I'll keep you informed as to what goes on asa things develope.

I guess the "Walking on Sunshine" gig didn't work out for her.

Oh, I forgot. I hope everything turns out okay. Mother Nature can play rough sometimes.

Well from the looks of it Katrina should make landfall well to the south of us. (About an hours drive.) She is forecast as becoming a Cat.1 storm which isn't too bad. Nothing like what we dealt with last year. (A strong 2 and a middling 3.) Lots of rain though and way too many panicing people. (We stopped off at a gas station for our Bi-weekly fill up and got to watch the people going absolutly nuts. If it wasn't so irritating it would have been funny.) The only bad part about this is I only have half a tank of propane for my grill and didn't have the money or the patience to go and get it topped off. (It should still last me about two weeks.)

A funny aside here. Where I live now is quite a distance from the gas station I frequent so I fill up the car tank as well as three six gallon tanks. This way I only have to go there every two weeks. One of the people at the station asked me if I was getting the extra gas for my generator and the station attendant replied that I couldn't have been. I've been getting this much gas every other week for at least six months.

I remember being told years ago - "be carefull what you ask for, you just might get it."

I hope it doesn't flood stuff too badly out there....

Be safe, Cat! :rose:

And if it looks like Central Florida is going to get hit, would you mind paddling over to check on my roof? ;)

I'm puzzled by that "lack of rain". Hasn't Florida already been hit by several hurricanes and tropical storms? Katrina is the eleventh named storm and I am sure I remember seeing weather maps with some of the earlier ones plowing through Florida.

This is your fault? You BASTARD! I thought everybody in South Florida knew you don't pray for the "R" word until late October. Did you also happen to pray for wind?

In central and south Florida, we live on top of porous limestone with a few inches of soil. It can't absorb a lot of water all at once. The land is flat, too. Pouring a lot of water, all at once, on this part of the world is like pouring it into a flat rock.

Yui,

According to the tracks tonight it looks like it will be sweeping through Broward County, across the lower state then hooking back around to head into the upper state. Your place should be safe, this time. (Come on down to my shelter, it's been here since 1953 and only lost a shingle during last summers storms. By the end of the month I'll even have complete shutters for the place. We have plenty of food, plenty of beer, and even a generator.)

Stay safe and keep us posted, Cat.

And if you need to paddle out, my key is under the Norfolk pine by the back door. :)

So far all we've received is some rain and a bit of wind. (Gusts up to 45 last I heard.) The storm is a minimal Catagory 1 and making landfall around Ft. Lauderdale. Hell as you can see I even have power. I think we lucked out on this one.
