Well, at least I know what I'll be dressing as for Halloween . . .

So I get a call completely out of the blue from a friend, letting me know I'll be getting a call from someone I've never met. His band is going to fly me out to Phoenix next week to fill in for their guitar player for 3 shows over 7 days. They'll be cool shows (including a fest), with lots of opportunity to have fun and entertain thousands (literally). The only catch . . .

I'll be the one on the left. :D

Any Litsters in Phoenix that want to do lunch? I'll be killing time Sunday, Monday, & Tuesday (and you're welcome to come to the show if you like 80's pop metal ;) ). I'm just sad we're not playing near Selena . . . I know she'd come to see us (and maybe get into the spirit and flash the band  ).

Do you do Bon Jovi tributes? With that wig, it looks like it to me.

Surprisingly no. I'm a big Sambora fan from my early days, but this is mostly Poison stuff. There's evidently a big market for it, my friend who got me the gig plays in one here that travels all over (they just got back from Puerto Rico). He's had a couple of specials on VH-1 and everything (I'd be shocked if the real band could get a VH-1 special at this point :D ).

I always thought of Poison as the most overrated of the 80s bands. I could never stand them.

Have fun at the show though. If you know the songs than it should be a blast for you :D

Poison is one of my son's favorite bands. Today's his 22nd birthday.

I'll admit it....I once had every release that Poison put on the market. lol

I've heard that 80's rock/metal is making a big comeback among the kids, although I haven't seen it too much among the kids I teach (just the usual AC/DC & Led Zepplin fans). Alice Cooper was talking about the trend and how it's been great for his tours on a local radio station. I'm torn because it's cool to hear some of that music again, but painful to realize the music I listined to after high school is now considered "Classic Rock".

I saw them on the Unskinny Bop tour. Although they weren't a huge band for me (I was more into harder music), they put on a great show and everyone had a blast. Since that's what they always aimed for (and they were never shy about saying it), I guess they were truly successful.

Middle school and high school kids are loving "classic rock".

Queen, Aerosmith, Journey, Styx, REO - those are all getting play these days.

It's very strange to me.

I've been teaching for almost 15 years, so I see the trend pretty closely (the Nirvana trend almost made me put a shotgun in my mouth ;) ). The constants are always AC/DC, Hendrix, and Zepplin. They have been popular among most kids (I can almost always give out a song by one of them to any student). What surprised me was when the best student I've had in years gave me a Tesla CD, asking to learn Modern Day Cowboy. Since that time, I've seen more kids asking for 80s music (calling it Classic Rock).

I used to live in Phoenix..does that count? I know a great coffee shop in nearby Tempe if you are in need. I recommend the mocha breve (hershey's chocolate, espresso, half and half)

They do live jazz on....Friday's I think? I actually miss them more than my mom/step father...sad I know :D

I'll be playing Friday, Saturday, & Wednesday so that won't work. The big days will be Sunday-Tuesday because I'll already have the tunes down and won't have anything to do except sit around the house. If I can get my laptop running, at least I could write (or play Scrabble).

You just reminded me that YouTube has just about every music video ever logged on their servers, so I went and looked for a Tesla video that I only ever saw a handful of times way back when (Edison's Medicine). The song wasn't nearly as good as I remembered it.

YouTube, smashing childhood memories every day ;)

I love the look. :D

Congratulations on the gig, S-Des. Best of luck for catching hotel keys and panties. ;)

That is a great thing about these kinds of bands. For whatever reason, women just love to do naughty things for the guys on stage. I don't know about the fest, but the two club dates should be fun. :nana:

I'm still 3 votes away from qualifying
If anyone has time to read and vote, I'd be very grateful.
