Corporal. John Miller. 23.
Infinitum Mercenary Squad.
U.S Military.
14:00 Local Time. Thirty Two Miles South Of Rel
---------
I sat in the seat of the chopper, the harness was tight, I could feel my heart beating quickly. I looked around at the one other solider that I was assigned with on the mission. We had not spoken the entire trip. I looked out the window, and stared out onto the desert. We will be landing in Rel in Five minutes. Secure all harnesses, and all personal belongings to the provided straps. The intercom buzzed out.

A few minutes passed, and the chopper lurched forward, and began to decend.
God I hate these Heli's I thought silently to myself. After what seemed like an eternity of falling, the chopper finally slowed, and small thump, and we were on the ground.

After we finally landed, I unbuckled and grabbed my M16A4 Standard Rifle from the rack, and my small bag (Only supplied with a few Rations, and books and letters my fiancé sent me) And hoisted that onto my back. The pilot, after shutting the engine down, beckoned for me to come to the window, which he had poped down. I slowly trodded over to him.

"Welcome to Rel. You and your buddy need to make it to the police station, are we clear corporal?" He asked. I nodded, then returned to where My partner stood. "Corporal John Miller, The Pilot said to get to the police station ASAP"
As we began to walk to the police station, I slightly turned to him. "So tell me a little about you.." I asked

Name: Johann Wenz
Rank: Specialist
Age: 29
Squad: Black Eagle
U.S. Army

I slung my backpack onto my back and watched the corporal as he spoke with the pilot. Then I pulled out the bag containing my M82A1, of course you could see that it is a gun, but the 122cm or 48 inch length didn't really give away exactly what I was toting around. His question took me by surprise, the whole trip he did not seem too inclined to talk and now he want me to tell him more of myself? Maybe just want to get to know the guy who has to cover his six for now.

"SPC Johann Wenz, Black Eagles, Sniper."

I grinned,

"Former Sargeant, reasons for down ranking is classified, but let's just say I refused to execute a direct order."

Slinging the M82A1 over one shoulder I fell into step with the Corporal.

"So any idea why they sent us to this hell hole?"

"Well.." I say lookng around. "The only reason why they would send us, Is cause this must be a city on the verge of war, more of a random goose chase, We wull be told to observe and report." I say, adjusting my rifle. I wasn't one for automatics. Not many know this but the difrence between the M16A3, and M16A4 was that the A4 was burst and single shot, no automatic.

We continued down the street, I watched the roofs, and saw a few children running down the street. This is gonna be one hell hole indeed, civilian children just running around? I cliped my gun onto my harness and continued down, only one hand on my rifle. "So, what got you sent here?" I asked. "Cause, I just pissed off some superiors in the mess hall." I said, chuckling.

Johann Wenz

I slipped my back up gun, the P-90 into position and cocked it, you never knew in places like this, I chuckled at the Corporal's reply.

"Sir the only reason they will send a sniper on a mission here is to punish him, should be part of my demotion coming back to haunt me."

I scanned the area as we walked, checking for ambush spots, sniper hot zones, exits and cover.

"Recon? Did enough of that for the Black Eagles, always good to hang with the Spes Ops guys, it is the Black Ops guys you don't want around you."

There was a flash and I started to instinctively raise my SMG when I realized that it was a kid playing with a mirror,

"I hate when children play around in a war zone. Collaterals is unacceptable in my book."

"Sniper, I always wanted to be a Marksman." I said continuing down the street. "But instead I got a 'frontier experiance' under the wing of infinitum, Dont tell anyone I told you this shit, but that sector is mostly private, mercenary work, it aint pretty. So whatever is going on here, it aint average stuff." I said flat out.

We continued down the street. "Why did they send you in without a long range rifle? Isn't that your specialty." I noticed two people in an alleyway, in a heated argument. "I tapped Johann on the shoulder. "Wanna stop that?" I asked.

Johann Wenz

"It is an ungrateful job, nobody appreciate what you do."

I nodded my understanding when he told me to keep what he said between us, being a Spec Ops operative I knew how to keep my mouth. At his question I grinned and patted the P-90,

"This baby is the one you want in street fights sir, accurate with a ton of rounds."

I shrugged my shoulder focusing his attention to the bag slung over my shoulder,

"But the love of my life? She's waiting for me as patiently as always."

When he drew my attention to the heated argument in the alleyway and asked if I wish to break it up, I noticed that some of the locals were busy looking out of their windows, not at the fight, but at us.

"I don't like it sir, the locals are checking us out, those two aren't drawing any attention. I can see the local peace keepers just up ahead. Perhaps inaction will be the best part of valor right now?"

I stared at the locals, whom stared back at us. "Yeah. Lets let the local authorities deal with em." I said, continuing down the street. I waved my hands at the peacekeepers, flagging their attention.

"Hey!" I shouted, they where about 32 Yrds. away, and began to approach us. It occured to me 'Shit, we have military grade weapons, and we are just strolling down the street' I raised my hand from the rifle as they aproached.
"What is it?"One of the officers asked. He did not seem very happy with our presence.
"We are military occupants, The local police station requested our assistance, but we didn't know if we were allowed to stop the fight back there" I said, pointing at the alleyway.
"What did you say your name was?" The officwr asked, ignoring my statement.
"Corporal John Miller. US Military. About that alley-"
"Give us a minute." The officer said, cutting me off. I turned to Johanna. "What the fuck?" I whispered "You handle this." I said. A few locals had walked onto their balconies, and in their doorways. Something didn't feel right.

I listened to the exchange, but I was much more interested in the action happening around us, Miller's whisper did draw my attention. I started to notice signs of hardware all around us, then I noticed one of the officer's who seemed uncomfortable, trying to hide something, then I saw the bloodstain poking out from under his flak jacket, this was an ambush. The spot gave us a few ways out, there was no sniper hotspots, so this was not a well organized attack. I whispered softly so that only Miller could hear me,

"Ambush. Militants."

Then I stepped forward and smiled brightly,

"My friends come on, why don't you take us to the Police and let them verify eh? Let the people handle their own disputes."

The flat stare just proved my point and just to show that I knew what was up I kept my hand on the pistol grip of the SMG, on this range even on full auto I was sure to be able to take them out.

"We are busy trying to contact them."

I raised my eyebrows,

"Must be with smoke signals from that bearded dude over there with the bloodstain on his unform you know what I'm saying?"

Still I had that stupid grin pasted on my face, if done right they would think I'm a stupid joker and that would be their mistake. The tension built as the officer's tried to stare me down and then the release came when a siren went off, an APC lumbered into view, rifles poking out the side and the M2 MG swiveling looking for threats.

"Oh no problem, I see that they have arrived. Perhaps they can sort this one out."

I still did not relax, but when the "officers" ran for the shadows I knew that we had to get off the street.

"Sir we got to get off the street, if a fire fight breaks out now we're sitting ducks."

It all happened quickly. I gripped my pistol a M1911 (a older pistol, but highly reliable gun.) I watched behind us. Tension rising, a high numer of civilians, when the APC rolled in, I counted my blessings. "I agree" I said to the suggestion to move out. I moved to the side of the building, watching the APC, and turned down a side street.

"Danger close much?" I asked, slowing my pace as we got further. "Where the hell is this police station?" I said as we walked down the road.

Johann Wenz

I follow corporal Miller down a side road, I'm kind of surprised that je would ask me where the Police Station is.

"Saw it before those boys back there tried to get us killed. Two and a half blocks North sir."

I scanned the area,

"As for danger none apparent for now."

Fire erupted in the street behind us and I slipped automatically behind stairs for cover. An assortment of weapons, rifle, handgun, SMGs and then the M2 started talking.

"Sir I strongly advise that we make for our CP at double time."

"Agreed. We can talk then." my knuckles were white from gripping my pistol, I waited for the bursts died down, and then ran to a adjacent street. After a few minutes of doing this, we were half a block away from the police station, and the gun shots were a decent distance away.

"Thats it." I said, pointing at the station. I continued walkig towards it, watching the nearby appartments. I stepped up the stairs and into the station, the attendent looked up, a little startled.
"Can I help you?" She stammered.
"I am Corporal John Miller, I have been request by the 'sheriff' to help out with the locals."
"Give me a minute." She said, picking up the phone.
"What do think of think of all this?" I asked Johann.

Johann Wenz

"To be honest sir? It stinks, we were made before getting near our contact point, almost got killed by the people we must protect and then when we arrive here they know nothing. It is worse than customs back home."

I shifted my P-90 into a more comfortable position and looked behind us, the firing had stopped, there had been no explosion, so the APC was doing just fine, maybe it ran out of ammo.

"But they did inadvertedly save our bacon so maybe we should give them a chance."

"I just feel, like something is wrong, they should have known we were coming, not call to the back." I said, looking around, storing my pistol.
"And if they are getting picked off easy, and uniforms being stolen, its getting worse." I added.

I returned my attention to the intern. "How much longer?" I asked
"You are cleared, he is interogating someone, so it will be about ten minutes, you can go into the lunchroom." She said, pointing to the double doors to the lunchroom.

I entered the lunchroom with Johann. I looked around, the lights were flickering, and a few officers toiled around, they stared at us, studying us. I pulled a hair out at a small table, and sat across from Johann. "Okay, game plan.." I started, uncliping my rifle and setting it on the table. "First of, you and I, equal, we are a team, not 'Sir and Serf'." I started. I hated the rank affecting performance.
"Except for that, any input?" I asked.

Johann Wenz

I swiveled a chair and sat down with my back to the wall, SMG still at the ready,

"Sir even if I call you sir it will not keep us from working together, but if you want it this way I got no problems with it."

I looked around,

"I think that these guys need reinforcements, if I look at the amount of rifle snouts I saw along with standard crew on the APC, then take into account the mess this station is in?"

I shook my head,

"I think we can start filing that report, it will say: SAFU sent in the cavalry. But I think we should also try and get a local handle on this. People don't just try to kill foreigners and shoot at their own Police for no reason."

"Ah the report." I said, sighing. "Title: Their fucked, Sums it up for me." I said, leaning back. "So. Johann." I started, "Where are you from, why enlist? Its a pretty bullshit time to join, another g'damn war is gonna start, and Now you inlist?" I say, chuckling "Sure this is probably in the middle of your first, or beggining of second tour, but still." I say, grabbing a small drink from my canteen.

After taking a small sip, I sat it back down next to my pack. "Before you ask, there is one reason why I am here." I said, leaning forward against the table, rubbing my hair. "I need the money for my Fiancé." I say, grinning like I am the person with the shiny new toy. "Can't wait to get out of this god' damn dink hole." I said, leaning back.

Johann Wenz

I arched an eyebrow at John,

"Enlisted eleven years ago, joined the Rangers, from there went to Spes Ops, ran with the Black Ops and ended up with the Eagles, so all in all it has been eleven years of serving."

I shrugged,

"Don't have a home or family to go to, so my life is the military. War? I prefer it to Dark Runs, better to kill an enemy than to play assassin if you get my drift."

I raise an eyebrow, absorbing all of what Johann has said. "Well I would have figured you would be commanding your own devision by now, then again there was that incident.." I said, trailing off

A few minutes of silence passed by. I heard a few murmurs around me, mostly about me, but shrugged it off.*
"Corporal John Miller?" A scruffy voice called out, probably from heavy cigars, and liqour.
I stood, and faced the man whom called me out. Mid fourties, Man of Habbit by the ash stains on his pants, Not from here though. "Sherrif..." Shit, I forgot his name.
"Holton, Sheriff Holton." He said.
"Yes, Sherrif Holton. You requested assistance from our two sectors.." I said motion towards Johann to me.
"Yes I did, you got here just in time." He chuckled. Not a good sign.
"How so?" I asked.
"Rebel Cells popping up left and right, they are killing my men. I want you to go through the parts of the city where they are thought to be." He said, passing me a map.
"Sir-"*
"Already called your commanders. They gave me authorization."*
"Alright.." I say, looking towards Johann. "Any questions?" I asked him.

Johann Wenz

"Yeah, where is the cheapest booze and easiest women?"

Both men did not expect that question and I just had to grin.

"Are we weapons free? If somebody points a gun at me I want to know that I am clear to engage and also just a fair warning, I am a pretty good shot, if your citizens draw any weapon on me..."

I patted the P-90 to emphasize my point.

"Ah yes you make a valid point, you are free to engage the terrorists, but I will frown on civilian casualties."

I laughed,

"You tell that to your men who just killed around twenty civilians not a mere twenty minutes ago?"

The silence was a good thing, it told me that I had struck a nerve.

"Right, last question, I do love my baby here, but will need silenced weapons, got any of those?"

I smiled at the joke, but once Johann had brought up the APC from earlier, I could tell he went slightly to far.

""Right, last question, I do love my baby here, but will need silenced weapons, got any of those?" Johann asked.

The sheriff sighed and motioned for us to follow him. "We have a few we have 'aquired' from past 'Inforcement'." He said, something about his use of the words 'Aquired' and 'Inforcement'. I picked up my rifle, and followed him down a few hallways, untill we reached the armory. A few silenced weapons were racked, a certan rifle caught my eye. The G3A3. But then something else caught my eye.
"No fucking way." I said, opening the cage, on the table, was a MG36.
"How-" I started speachless.
The sheriff chuckled, like he had just achieved something amazing.
"The local weapons factory made a few." He started, walking into the cage
"Now there is 122 MG36 LMG's on earth." He said, grinning.
I picked the LMG, and it wasnt as bulky as others, and had a drum magazine.
"Can I?" I asked
"Yes go ahead." He said, grinning
"What do you need?" He said, turning to Johann

While they went for the heavy weaponry I already saw what I wanted. I stored the P-90 in the carry-all with my lady along with my .45 Glock. Picking up the Silenced PSG-1, the MP5S along with a SOCOM sporting a silencer, I were just about finished with picking up magazines for my new toys when John asked his question. I cocked the PSG-1, slung her over my shoulder, then cocked the MP5S,

"I need a safe, I am not going anywhere not knowing if my wife is safe."

The sherif raised an eyebrow, but the finger close to a trigger had to impress him enough to know that I was sure to kill him first if he crossed me.

"Well a man who knows his silent weapons, sure, we have a safe. I can give you the one key to keep since it needs two keys to open."

Sounds reasonable right? So I agreed, minutes later we were back in the street, sporting new toys and a map.

"John why would a run-down place like that have a state of the art safe? Something just isn't right here. I'd like to contact Mother Hen and find out if we really are cleared by our commanders."

I shrugged,

"Or we could try to capture one of our targets and ask some questions."

" I would rather not have a hostile conformation with anyone at this location, they know it better than us, and they are sure as hell better equipped than we are. " He said, walking a few feet down the hall, toting his gun in his arm.

"So in this situation we shall call our respective commanders, and see if the situation is all go, and these men aren't tricking us." He said, UN-clipping the radio from his harness, and turning a few knobs. A small static clicked, and a voice rang out.
"You rang for us?" The voice from the radio called out.
"Yeah, Charlie, we need to verify a command by command." He asked, calmly, rolling his eyes.
"Yeah.." There was a short pause on their end "What is the situation soldier?" The radio finally responded.
"We need to verify if command gave any conformation commands to the local authorities in Rel." He asked.
"One moment please." The radio chimed, then clicked off.

John turned to Johann.
"So do you really think these guys are spooks?" He asked

Johann Wenz

He crouched down, resting against the wall with his shoulder to present a lower profile,

"John I think that there is more here than what are being said. For one thing that safe will keep on bothering me. I have seen too many places like this to know when something is up, something is up and we are either the bait or supposed to be a broom. We are here to check out the city right? No word was said about assisting with the eradication of any groups."

He shrugged, patted his pockets and then looked at John,

"Got any gum?""
