Any guys out there ever take any? I was reading about how one of the most popular ones has come under fire as being unsafe and the indgredient (Something derived from Yellow Jackets) has also been attacked by many groups lately...

Do any of you take any kinds of dietary supplements?

I had a discussion with my father about this. He is a drug and alcohol counsilor. He has a lot of guys come through who have had problems with weight gain stuff. From what he said Creatine( doubt thats spelled right) is harmless but there are a lot of things out there that are harmless. If its omething you are interested in id talk to a doctor or a personal trainer to find the real answers.

The StudMuffin is all over 'em.

Why?

You're probably talking about ephedra or ma huang. There's been flaph over it lately.

Whatever you find out, let me know. I just dieted for 2 weeks to lose 10 pounds of fat, now I'm ready to start putting on muscle weight.

ephedra or ma huang cranks up the metabolism. It is usually combined with asprin and (mind when totally blank). Anyway, they aren't for helping you gain weight but for losing body fat.

RastaPope, if you are eating clean, by that I mean cutting out the sweets, breads to a large degree, and other foods that are not that good for you plus lifting weights then you will start to add the muscle. Also, the more muscle you add the higher you metabolism goes so you end up burning even more fat. Also, you need to add some cardio into all of this. At least 3 times a week for at least 20 minutes a pop.

Creatine i belive can cause liver damage and should only be done 2 or 3 weeks on then another 2 or 3 weeks off. Me and my roommate both used to use them but now he just does and I don't.

Yeah, I've cut out everything bad. Been on turkey, fruits, and brown rice for weeks now. I'm rather thin but had a slight layer of body fat. Been doing a couple hundred pushups, situps, and pullups every day as well as dancing super fast for an hour a day. I don't have access to weights at moment, so I'm trying to concentrate on toning at first.

Actualy the study on the liver damage was inconclusive. Most of the other studies I have seen point to the fact that it actually harmless but does help in keeping the "pump" in the muscle.

RastPope,
With the pushups, you can do a lot with them. One thing you can do is vary your hand width to work other parts of your muscles. if you get them closer together, then it works more of the triceps, the farther out works more of your chest. Also, chin up work you biceps (hands facing towards you or each other) and pullups (hands facing away from you) work you back muscles. BTW, when you tone, you will end up adding muscle if you are eating enough. body weight x 10 is the number of calories that you need just sitting doing nothing. Then add to this if you need to gain some weight... it has been suggested about 250 calories extra a day if you are working out is enough.
